Does anyone know how large this thing was while hurdling towards earth?

I drove by it while moving from Vegas to Oklahoma.

It's in Arizona or New Mexico.

Re: House-Size Asteroid Comes Closer to Earth Than the Moon Friday
The space rock, called asteroid 2012 TC4, is about 56 feet wide (17 meters) and will come within 59,000 miles (95,000 kilometers) of Earth at its closest point when it zips harmlessly by on Friday. That's about one-fourth the distance to the moon.
But you don't have to wait to see live views of the interloping space rock: There are two live webcasts of the asteroid today (Oct. 11). The Virtual Telescope Project and Slooh Space Camera, two groups that offer live telescope views of space via the Internet, will be providing the asteroid imagery.
The Virtual Telescope Project in Italy run by astrophysicist Gianluca Masi will provide a live telescope view of asteroid 2014 TC4 starting at 3:30 p.m. EDt.

Democrats will tax it if it comes too close.
 Quoting: FatalW1shes

Space carbon tax for the space rock....TPTB will tax the hell out of it, poison it and bury it in a plastic black box and impose a environmental tax for the pollution it leaves...Then and only then with this space rock will be a true american...That is after it is fully examined for old age reversal properties that if found, they will not share. You all know the story....

Even if a house-sized asteroid was on a collision course with Earth it would break up in the atmosphere.

You need at least a 100 foot asteroid in diameter to do any ground damage.

Space rock doom postponed for now.

I don't think the size of this particular asteroid that is at issue....it is the fact that there are several of them lately.....and a great number of them are very late discoveries. We are obviously in some sort of debris field.

I'm more concerned about the number of these they are seeing 2 days before they ZIP past us (harmlessly)

This is I think the 3rd that has done that? in the past 2 months?

I think that's right....

More are being detected because more technology and people are looking for them.
Technology is making it possible to see them smaller and

Before they still came and got close, but nobody knew it.
And yes, eventually one or 200 will strike the earth.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10957384

Spot-on!

17m wouldn't get through the atmosphere.
Even if it's a dense iron asteroid, it would break up while stil between 1 to 4 miles high (dependent on angle)
A loud bang, and a gust of wind - and if it's over a populated area, maybe some shattered windows.

I wouldn't like my house to be directly under the airblast, but certainly not a global 'doom' event by any stretch of the imagination.
