Today, Popular Science reported that a scientific team is attempting to determine whether we live in a giant computer simulation. The idea is that computer programs have limiting factors, as opposed to real life which would not be so constrained. If these scientists determine that there are physical limits then they will conclude we are in a simulation. If we are in a simulation then someone wrote the program. That "someone", by definition, must be God.
I'd like to see and hear all those who don't believe in God when these researchers conclude that we are in fact living in a simulation which only a supreme programmer could have written. Then, I will turn my smirking gaze over to the religious believer's in God and ask them just how it is they intend to live with God in heaven when they are just a computer simulation. I am not opposed to the idea of 'God' but this hypothesis cannot negate the possibility that highly advanced extra-terrestrials could use their technology to create a simultation that encapsulates consciousness. I'm not saying I believe this but it's certainly not outside of the realms of possibility. Look at the SIMS games that we utilize for entertainment in our society - imagine the SIMS game 10,000 years from now or what a SIMS game would be like for a civilization that is 100,000 - 200,000 years more advanced than we are! Now you're scaring me. You got me thinking that the supreme programmer may not have my best interests at heart. Don't be scared. These are just theories and we are just consciousness having experiences here. We'll find out more details when we part ways with these physical bodies. : )
