Should the West directly intervine in the Syrian civil war?

OP, if you were walking down the street and saw 2 Irishmen fighting, would you want to join in? Of course not! Syria is a private fight and it's better that it doesn't turn into a public one. Let's just throw them sticks, pipes and trashcans from a distance and let them fight it out!

I can see what you're saying but look at the precedent that has been set with the majority of the last interventions that removed a despot;

Iraq - fucked
Libya - Mustard gas
Egypt - Clusterfuck.

Given the locale of Syria instability would only escalate. As I said in my other post if the paradigm shifted from ‘removing the bad man in charge' to 'bringing stability and peace to the region' I would support such a something.

More than half of the "rebels" are from foreign countries. Many of Libyan "rebels" got a job in Syria, they have already caught UK citizens of muslim faith but not of Syrian origin and a lot of muslims from ex-Soviet union regions (Chechnya etc). Their target is to overthrow all the non Sunni muslims, thus they attack the Shiite, Alevite and Christian Orthodox Syrians (who are true Syrians and not Arab conquerors from the Arabic peninsula).

Syria is way weaker than iran. So this has all the symptoms of being the next u.s. occupation/"regime change".
