In the second video I posted before... I'm just now watching it again because there's just way too much information to absorb in any one sitting... a little after 30 minutes into the video she addresses pregnant women needs.

In my own humble opinion........the virus does not go on vacation during the summer.....but is inside of people all year round.

People however become sick during the winter......because their immune systems become weakened.....due to lack of sun exposure and deficiency in the vital hormone D3.

Bacteria and virus are therefore are able to exploit this....during the winter months.

10,000 a day is minimum

There is scientific evidence that suggests 50,000 I.U of Vitamin D3 per day for 3-5 days can be an effective treatment for many viral and bacterial diseases.

Get it naturally. Best is fish. Salmon or mackerel. Then eggs. Then the sun.

How is it that you depend on a pill to live?
 Quoting: SlimExponent

Sadly much of the fish these days is ruined from mercury and other substances.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24909996

I know, fish sources are usually questionable between GOM, atlantic u.s. coast, fukushima and all the rest.
Because of hyperimmune thing where I have many new food & chemical sensitivities my only choice is D3 from sheep lanolin.
Found some at Vitacost 5,000IU minigels 365 per bottle from colecalciferol (sheep lanolin). You can see through it so it's liquid. Powdered sheep kind is the kind used to fortify milk with D3.

Now there's another one that (forget the name) comes in a liquid called 365 DROPS, very small bottle maybe 2" tall, one drop is 1,000 or 2,000 IU strength and is based in coconut oil but I think it's too expensive 14.00/18.00 depending on strength.
There are other drops that last FOREVER based in olive oil at Vitacost, their CSI(?) product for 10.00 2oz.
The only thing I don't trust about that form is keeping it fresh since you take the dropper in and out of the bottle so often.

Good thing to keep in mind people respond differently to fish oil D3, lanolin D3, different brands. I knew a lady who worked at a healthfood store who said her D3 levels were unresponsive to different ones she tried, and did find one that showed higher levels finally.

My levels? Not a CLUE. Just started up again, this time the minigels. :p

I recently discovered I had low D3 from a blood test done by my hematologist. I was given 50k once a week for 8 weeks of Vitamin D2. Then on to D3, between 2k and 4k per day. I am currently taking the 2k. It has only been a couple of months and I am not sure if it is benefitting me or not. I shall keep taking it. I am not sure what my numbers were, forgot to ask.

Does anybody know if lanolin form is of similar benefit to fish form, after all it is fat/oil to keep them temp regulated, one from land and the other from sea.

Being that I don't have a choice w/fish even if sources were reliably clean.

I'd sure appreciate an educated guess. Anybody?

well I take a 1000 IU's a day, and I feel fine. Sometimes I take 2000 or 3000 IU's.
My cold every winter is completely gone. I used to have a cold all winter long.

I'm about 87 kilo's, what would be my ideal intake, that you suggest?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1296810

I take 10,000 IUs a day to get a reading of 80 which is ideal for warding off a whole slew of very serious diseases. I weigh 155 (70 kilos) and am 72 yr young. I would recommend you take 10,000 IU / day too. The stuff is cheap, so why fool around? Also, I would take vitamin A, 10,000 IU a couple times a week, not every day. There's a bunch of supplements that one can take. I would also recommend a blend of Omega-3's of fish oil, borage oil, and flaxseed oil, 1000 mg, a couple times a day with meals. I believe it is far better to prevent diseases than to treat them after the fact. Eat a healthy diet, no junk food (GMOs, aspartame, HFCS) and get some exercise, everyday if possible. Avoid vaccines as they are a scam to cull the population, like GM food. Best of luck!

You want to take the softgels--

here is a good bargain - 360 gels for $13.49

[link to www.iherb.com]

One to two 5000IU is a good therapeutic dose.

I like the above brand for the price, which is much
lower than my local health food store. I have
used it for years. I finally got my Nana on them
and she has not been sick this whole year now.

You can use coupon code BES696 to save $10 on your first iHerb order of $40 or more. Plus, orders less than $40 will receive $5 off! Purchases of $20 or more get shipping for free, in the states. They will ship world-wide though.

Re: Vitamin D3 discussion
From what I have read......40 to 70 ng/mL is the normal range.......but you can take it up a bit higher if you are fighting off a disease.

Toxic level is 100 and above.

You should compute the proper dosage based on weight. A young child for example should be getting much less than an adult.

The following formula was given by the article posted below:

Approx. 1,000 IUs (25mcg) per day for every 15kg of body weight. A kg is approx. 2.2 pounds.

A child who is 33 pounds (15kg) should get 1,000 IUs per day.

A child who is 66 pounds (30kg) should get 2,000 IUs per day.

99 pounds.......3,000 per day

132 pounds.......4,000 per day

165 pounds........5,000 per day

198 pounds........6,000 per day

Source: "Use of Vitamin D in Clinical Practice" by John J. Cannell, MD and Bruce W, Hollis, PHD

Try to get your actual blood level tested several times per year and adjust dosage as needed.

I read a few posts here regarding D3. What are the benefits and how many IU should I take?
 Quoting: ***ClappaGuy***

Currently there's an epidemic of vitamin D deficiency. The official line is that no one knows why, exactly. Could be because Americans are spending less time in the sun (glued to computer screens) and/or wearing sunscreen, but according to my doctor and other sources they aren't convinced that's enough to explain it. Although ... African-Americans and other dark-skinned folks are more at risk than light-skinned, which would suggest it's a sun thing.

It is my belief that exposure to fluoride is contributing to low vitamin D levels as well as a related epidemic of thyroid problems (over-active, under-active, cancer, etc.), joint problems, chronic fatigue, and foggy thinking.

The Canadian equivalent of the FDA has advised up to 2000 IU of vitamin 3 per day. They're farther north than we are so may need more than we do. It's good to know 2000 is unlikely to kill you.

I got tested and with an optimal level of 30 my level was 18. Doc put me on 3 months of high dosage (like 20,000 IU once a week if I recall correctly).

At the same time, I added some other thyroid-related supplements to my diet, and as a result I experienced a HUGE ENERGY JUMP. I went from feeling like an old person to feeling like a kid. With a Ph.D. and a job in high tech, I make a living using my brain and my brain is convinced there is something poisoning our thyroids.

Anyway, D3 is good! Also magnesium and iodine.

Can pregnant women take it?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4781813

I'm almost 7 months pregnant and I currently take 10000 to 15000 iu each day. I'm very comfortable with this dose after reading extensively on vitamin d3. Research has shown that children born during Winter months are more likely to develop Autism than those born during Summer months. One possibility is lower Vitamin d levels in mothers before birth. I know I was severely lacking in it before I started supplementing- possibly for years! Before I began I was depressed with anxiety that always peaked during the Winter. Constantly a worried. High strung. Within 3 days of starting this regimen I felt considerably more relaxed. At ease with myself as well as what surrounds me. It has only been 5 weeks since I began but I can say for now that it has only gotten better. I stress less and less. I haven't felt this good in 15 years. It's amazing.

AC, check out the Vitamin D council at [link to www.vitamindcouncil.org]

They don't seem to recommend one source over the other. I take the lanolin based, most of the time.

This is a great site for answers and advice, and they have a forum.

One thing they mention is that you really only get Vitamin D from the sun during peak hours, due to slant of rays, like between 10 am and 2 pm---so that lets out a LOT of people who work. Also, hands, face and arms absorb very little; most is absorbed by the torso---so that lets out some of the more modest women :) Going out in the sun for 20 minutes at 4 pm, with jeans and t-shirt, might not be giving you much Vitamin D at all.

They list co-factors that should be taken with Vitamin D, with an explanation of each. And poster is right about magnesium oxide; some say only 4% of it is usable by the human body. Magnesium Citrate is another you don't want; another synthetic vitamin. Chloride, Taurate, and Glycinate are two of the best. Malate can be good too. A good description of the different types of Magnesium and some cheaper sources can be found at [link to sites.google.com (secure)]
I buy bulk magnesium chloride from bulk foods online.
