Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
My husband and I do not get along and thankfully we're hardly around one another (or can fake it) while my son is awake. I think we're both afraid of how bad the fights will get if we're jonesing for a cigarette.

Anyone have any advice????
 Quoting: *Valkyrie*

Discover and reconcile the deep-seeded conflicts that cause you to not get along. What you fight about day-to-day probably has nothing at all to do with the real reasons for animosity.

Age matters not - your son knows the faked behavior - and right now, at this very moment, you and your husband are actively engaged in raising your son to live his life by putting up a front and faking his emotions in his family life.

I long used the same excuse to not quit - that my daughter's mother and I would fight to such escalations that it would be counter-productive. Intuitively, though, I always knew that this would ultimately result in the real issues between us coming to light. And I knew there was no reconciliation to be had between us. And yet I still wanted my daughters to be able to have her in their lives as completely as possible.

Now she's moved out since a couple weeks ago and my final excuse to not quit has expired. I envy your strength in moderation to regularly limit your cigarettes to 2, 4, or 6 a day. Provided my advice didn't come off as too curt and my intentions aren't misplaced, I could sure use some advice/tips on a workable plan to keep to a small 'fall-back' minimum of a few smokes a day :)

BTW, OP - thanks for the thread :)

hfMuch welcome. I am happy to see the response to the thread. Smoking is an addiction that needs all our support to beat.

LOL, it helps because you will have better blood flow. Nicotine is a vessel constrictor. Try it and find out.

Hang in there and be strong quitters!
I stopped my cigs 2.5 years ago. Needed medication in the process for support (Zyban) and it worked like a charm. Smoked for 23 years and am so happy that i kicked that habit...
You can do it too!!!

I had to quit! Was costing me near 15 bucks for a pack of 20s! I worked out it cost me almost a hundred a week! I was paying over a hundred a week for pot too! Gave up both cold turkey and every time I craved either I went and spent the money on groceries or clothes! One week and I was so anti both.. I have an awesome wardrobe now and a full pantry! 200 bucks a week richer . Would never touch either again!

Love it I ouit smoking too. It will be one year Thanksgiving this year. Went to e-cigs quit them recently too. I chew a nicotine gum a couple times a day still. I really enjoy having both hands, no cough and I can smell and taste too. That annoying numbness in my arms and legs stopped 2 days after quitting last year.

Lets all stay healthy. We can do it.

Oh and happy one month Desert Fox.

Quit on Feb 14th. The first two months were hard but now it's easy and smoking disgusts me. I can't believe I ever did that to myself!

Don't sweat it.

It took me over 5 years, and three serious tries, to finally kick. One time I went back to cigs after nearly 2 years off.

I've been clean since 1996, and have no cravings at all.

I did use herbal and bicarbonate tablets on the final, successful attempt. Alkalizing your body really helps.

Each day put the money you would have spent on smokes, in a container and look at the results in a week. It is a good visual prop.

Wahey all cravings have gone now. I can actually hold a cigarette and have no desire to smoke it.

The way I did it was, thus: I went cold turkey for three days, yet on the third day the cravings became immense and I was moody as hell. So I decided to have one cig. Then I went cold turkey again. I didn't get any cravings for another 5 days, so I lit one up. I noticed this time around, that a quarter of the way through the cig, it made me feel sick, so I stubbed it out.

Now I'm completely over my nicotine addiction, and I think it only took me just over two weeks to quit.

Desert, just noticed you made the month mark!! Bummed i missed it but please accept my retro congrat-u-fucking-lations!!!banana2

As you know, i will be quitting next month. Although I am ready now, I will wait for my wife who is going to try hypnosis(got it as a gift so wth). Man i cant wait to be unchained from this filthy habit.

I quit for a year about 10 years ago now(arrghhh). I recall having an epiphany of sorts one day. Upon quitting, while driving to work, I would see or smell other drivers smoking. I would get all agitated and wish i could have one...JUST ONE!!! So this went on for a while, about a month i guess, and then one day i saw someone smoking and i found i didn't want one. I realized that I am no longer envious of that person because they can smoke, but rather that person, if they could know I'm winning the fight, is envious of me!

Even the ones who proclaim to love smoking know that they are slaves and wish they could put them down for good.

You are succeeding....keep it up!!!!
