We might even feel smug to be ahead of the game. But not likely. Because every single day is a new day to commit to. We will never be free in that respect... must off to do something with a turkey... we did pick an odd time to quit didn't we? The festive season and all that pressure? Must mean we're made of sterner stuff. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 30250132 12/25/2012 07:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Day 8 When I thought the worst was over, the cravings kicked in. Yesterday, last night and today I ve been craving like mad, specially last night where were a couple of guys puffing all night long. There were 2 moments when I almost cracked and ask them for a cig. Today I woke up with the urge to go to buy cigs, Im getting tired of fighting this. A couple of days ago I was sure I was going to have a clean new years eve , now Im just begging to finish each day...again All the pain and suffer from the first 3 days, looks like nothing when compared to the fixed idea to light one more....I miss them.... fuck me! Still holding....but barelly |

Still holding....but barelly I know a lot of people say that after 3 days you have it made, but you and I know this is not the case. After 2 days short of three months, I am still regularly challenged. Just know that if you give in, you start all over. It comes easier as time passes to resist, but urges will come. Drink OJ, or cranberry juice when the urge is highest, it does help. Good luck, yes you can. ![]() |

My first ¿succesfull? quit was something more of 3 month (2+ years ago)and I dont recall any cravings, now you tell me that you still have them? CRAP CRAP CRAP. I know that we are like any other junkie and shouldent focus that far ahead, but I dream of the day to say: OK Im over the cigs. Im affraid that we fucked our lives to the point we will never be free ( like an alcoholic) and forever be on guard. Its like a virus or troyan, these motherfuckers have a back door password to our brains, and one puff or one sip, and we are back in bussiness. Even that I hate hand tatoos Im thinking to draw something in my hand as a constant reminder...like the crossed cig inside a circle ( non smoking sign) Can you tell Im stressed? |

Really I can tell you are stressed. I can also tell you that even tho the urges still pass your mind, the ability to discard them will keep getting easier. The others on this thread will tell you the same thing, so giving up is not an option. If you live to be a hundred you would still know you would enjoy a smoke. But getting to one hundred depends on staying off cigarettes. Last Edited by Desert Fox on 12/25/2012 08:31 PM ![]() |

| grumpy User ID: 30606561 12/26/2012 04:00 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Anon 132: It's the fixating thing... Fixating on the need for just one puff. I do this thing called "redirect". I just tell myself to stop obsessing and redirect my attention elsewhere. I could obsess to the point of just giving in. Right now I'm just trying to understand my two brains... the logical one and the addicted one. The logical one has to win. That's all there is to it. Logically we don't want to smoke. But I'm a big talker. I'm having my dinner today and there are two smoking friends coming over. All I can think about is this. Nothing else. Ach... it's a battle. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 28786595 12/26/2012 08:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's been more than 2 weeks and I think I am free. I was a pack a day smoker like a lot of you, and I finally started to taper off for a few weeks and then I just let them go. I enjoyed my last day of smoking taking the biggest, longest hits I could to savor all the nostalgia. The physical withdrawal is pretty much gone, actually I think it's all gone. Now I'm just playing a mental game you know, fighting triggers like when I wake up. It's no biggie though. To anyone who wants to quit, you can do it. |

Way to go my friend, it sounds like you had a relative easy time of it, for that be glad. For a lot of us, quitting was hell. Now that you are there, come back to us now and again to support others that struggle. You will never regret your choice. ![]() |

And BxMac, you'd be right proud of me... I sent the husband to go outside and empty the ashtray. Because I "knew" those butts were there... It's a sad state of affairs but I still don't trust myself in any capacity... even other people's butts (friends at least, not butts on a curb...) But I got through it... :) |
