Salt at 10 - love the smell of fresh air in the morning.... It smells like.....Victory.
OneLove at 12 - heart and remedies healing and confirming Jah is Jah.
Danger at 13 - stands firm giving no quarter before the miracle cements.
Grumps at 33 - passing flower pots, the smoke of friends, and touching others.
CHL a whisper from 40 - and a fine-oiled machine of determination and will.
Des, the patroni and godfather of this safe harbor approaching four months.

And........the new voices of other strong men and women adding their clear songs of freedom to this thread; one day, four days, a week, eight days, on Monday, soon, again.

Together we can do what we can't do alone.

41 Days on this end. Rock solid. Market-wise. Emotional weather report is clear to mostly sunny.

Every minute, every hour, every day, every week, those nasty toxic sticks of poison get smaller and smaller in the rear view window as this Caddy for Daddy pulls further down the road to clear lungs, fresh skin, jingle in the pocket, and a bounce in the step. Top of the world, Ma, and smoke freakin free.

Don't quit five minutes before the miracle. Keep fighting the good fight.

New hope, new life. So much more than a cigarette.

Who's got it better than us?

I was going to answer "Those who have never smoked", but you know, I don't think so. Granted, they are not having to go through the physical/emotional/psychological stuff that we are experiencing. But, once we HAVE come out the other side, we will be so much stronger and more self-assured that we can handle other challenges with confidence.

Day 19, by the way. No cigs, no coffee. Yay, US!!!!

JFN, 13 days is big and one day from the two week milestone. Plenty of reference points made in two weeks. Many congratulations on your choice of freedom.

Anon, 5 days was a special day for me. A big turning point. I had gotten past the worst of the physical stuff and was left with the emotive-habit part of it. Not as difficult as I thought it would be (but not a cake-walk either), and I left myself open to what each new hour and day would bring. Just gets better and better.

Anon 400 - Happy 22 year anniversary. Wow! Long life and happiness to you.

OneLoveSoul - Gonna' cover eart with good vibes like water cover sea.

Grumps - How are you feeling? Is the "flu" sweeping Canada (it's all the news here and people seem to be attaching themselves to it like velcro)? Are you taking anything? There's a wealth of information on GLP regarding alternative options to the ER (Vit D, Apple Cider Vineger, Garlic/Onions, Cayane Pepper and Lemon Juice).

I've had the "cough" since Dec 22. Ironically, my smoker's cough disappeared two days after putting the sticks down (I always denied having a smoker's cough despite a morning and pre-sleep hack and weeze - two packs a day will do that). Had roughly 18 days of no cough and then walloped with this damn thing. Coughing like a coal miner in the rain (I love that visual, but feel for the miner). General malaise and the cough. Still mobile (can't let your body push you around), but not 100%. I hope you feel better and, should you like, maybe avail yourself of some of the remedies floated about on the site.

Best to you all.

Thanks DF and Mac, I'm fine now. Just a passing thing. Thank heavens...

Day 35 today.

Grateful not to catch this flu thing going around. I did have the flu shot despite what the vast majority of people on GLP advocate... I ain't takin' no chances no how. Hate the flu! Glad to see you're better Mac. You scared us all who worried you'd gone back to the dark side. Not that there's anything wrong with that. We'd still forgive you.

Sometimes I find it amazing that I am still smoke free. After 30 years of smoking... Wow. I was noticing that we women all quit at some point in our lives to either have or anticipate having babies... I guess the time comes when we have to think of ourselves as the babies we're going to have. Did that make sense? no... Just that we have to value ourselves as much as we would our own child so that we can quit and stay quit...

Just rambling as I do. Perhaps making no sense.

I am everyday afraid of smoking again. Yesterday, despite 34 days, if there was a cigarette in the house I would have smoked it I think. But maybe not. I gotta go and read that book again CHL to keep me on the straight and narrow.

One slip and we're readdicted...

We're doing it. All of us. A motley crew indeed but smokefree. :)

Anon 738 - Yeah, that sadness/depressed cloud came and tried to blanket a lot of us here. For me, it was just another ploy of the addiction to get me to pick-up a smoke and fill the "emptiness." It passed for me and I ask that you take it an hour at a time and keep moving forward. That said, please know you're not alone.

Grumps, I hear you. I've spent a lifetime making sure my brothers kept dodging bullets and the street and now, as a father, ensuring my kids are always loved, considered, and safe. And while I do much to facilitate my physical (quitting smoking being one of the largest), emotional and spiritual well-being on a daily basis, it doesn't come naturally to me. I was never taught how to do it, didn't see it modeled, and there's a seeming block to the intuitive process we all possess. I think what you wrote is so true, Grumpy. It's time for us to take care of ourselves. To cherish the gift of life within us. To recognize the magnificence that is ever-present and closer than the breath in our nostrils. I know we're worth it. And you proved it yesterday by not smoking. Good for you.

Thanks, as always, for the vital link, CHL.

It's an honor to have nobility - one holding a baronial title no less - on the thread. Welcome.

Among the many major milestones in this quit smoking trek (one hour, one day, a week, ten days, a month, three months, six months, a year), One week is a major, major, milestone. A huge accomplishment and one to be quite proud of. I'm sure the bells will be peeling for years to come on January 6 in honor of your acheivement. Congratulations.

If time allows, please keep coming back to this thread to let the newly quit know it can be done. To someone with a day or two clean, a week can seem like a lifetime and they would benefit from your experience as to how it can be done.

Again, many congratulations and continued success.

I am so very grateful for your kind words of encouragement, and blush at the prospect of having bells sound my accomplishments across this great nation.
I shall be ready every week to grant my future fellow Non-Smokers some words of my own to encourage those of the peasant classes to give up this foul habit.

Good to hear, Jasper. 12 Days is big and there is no reason things shouldn't continue to go well. On the other side and each day gets easier (but, this nic addiction is insidious, that's when I find I have to remain vigilant and not let the ease turn me complacent). Keep moving forward and congratulations on Day 12.
