quitting is a process. not all of us quit on the first try. but keep working at it and the resolve to finally end it will come. just keep putting more and more time between you and your last smoke

A friend of mine has just started trying to quit,

cut down from a 20 a day,

in the last 3 days he has had 4 cigarettes,

it's been about 27 or 28 days for me, other peoples smoke smell is disgusting,

my taste buds and sense of smell have increased dramatically

feels good (apart from the fact that lots of things taste really weird for a while)

Goodmorning everyone!

Still got the crankiness but not as intense as yesterday.

Decided to vent in a journal instead of venting on those around me...

Feels better that way.

Thank you everyone for your kind replies and compassion.

It's been hard to post anything more than a few sentences anywhere on the forum.

I continue to come and read of everyone's experiences with great camaraderie and love...

DF hoping the pain is diminishing.

Mac and CHL - thank you for being a source of strength and comfort.

Grumps - love to read what you post.

Everyone whom I haven't mentioned - hi thank you for your posts. hugs

And toward you as well, OneLove.

Good to see you and read you, Jasper. Fighting the good fight and a power of example to your friend. Congratulations.

Cat, 22. Over three weeks, sister. Great.

How is our new friend New Zealand doing? Over 19 hours for you now! Monumental. You'll never have to go through those 19 hours again. The cigarette gets smaller with every hour you pace and place between you and that toxic stick. We're pulling for you here.

Best to all.

In the end love, you gotta do what is right for you.

If it took a lot to get to your second day, what does that mean to you?

What came first to your reality - putting down the smokes or the book?

Books, tapes, etc. are there to support us. In the end, it is being able to master our compulsions on a moment to moment basis. You've got 48 hours under your belt... what feels to be your truth?

Whatever path you choose to get off the smokes you will be supported here.

Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
NZ - Day Two is awesome. Congratulations.

The Carr book is a huge help and great aid toward our ultimate end (as OneLove wrote). Keep reading it, but don't smoke.

Remember, you're dealing with a slippery foe (but one easily defeated a minute at a time) that will employ all manner of cunning and insidious thoughts to get you back in it's grips. "Oh, I'm on my second day, but Carr states I should read this while smoking so I better light-up." Sounds absurd, but to my addicted-to -cigarette-mind it's perfectly logical.

You're doing it and your first day clean will never have to be repeated again. Brother CHL here started the Carr after he put the smokes down and hasn't looked back. Same for you.

Remember, that cigarette is losing its hold. You're no longer a slave. You've pulled back the curtain to find the puny lie we've all bought into for years (if I recall correctly, 25 years in your case). The lie and the cigarettes will get smaller and smaller in the distance as the minutes, hours, and days you accumulate clean pull you to the new freedom you deserve. No longer a slave to a toxic stick, you'll meet the world with a newly earned confidence and a bounce in your step. You're doing it now and have much to be proud of.

I have a young one as well (three years old) and it gets better. A bink of the eye and the lack of patience passes (and it will come back from time to time as well). A minute at a time filled with love for yourself and your family. All you have to do today. Nothing is stronger than that.

So glad you're here and, again, congratulations.

CHL - I'm using a browser the Russians tweaked in the 50s after the success of Sputnik. Add to that my inherent inability to master anything mechanical (when water comes out of the faucet I liken myself to Moses and his miracle in the desert), or tech-related (DOS and Beta rule!).

Given this, would it be possible for you to download from Youtube and post Steely Dan's "Any Major Dude" (1996 concert Manasas) here for me? Song has stayed with me (for decades and decades) and lyrics dovetail nicely with our quit smoking effort. If it's a pain in the ass, I certainly understand.

Regardless of the outcome, I'm grateful you're here, CHL.

Best to all.
