Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
Morning all,
Had a great time last night hanging out with my family, I invited them upstairs to my cave to just hang out and enjoy the freshly cleaned carpet and generally happy environment.

Started out playing guitar with my ex band mate and believe me it was excellent to finally enjoy playing guitar again and oh boy can we still compliment each other on those things!

Next my daughters boyfried showed up and I told him to come up and show me and my bud how to play and wow can that kid rip, he is extremely shy and socially awkward but I'm working on that by trying to include him in our family craziness as often as possible.

Then we watched a short video of the band, and I was completely blown away by my kids singing along with the songs we wrote! Amazing to say the least as they never showed any interest while the band was together.... Seeing the bass player "uncle Mike" who passed away two years ago was hard for all of us as he was a huge part of what we accomplished in the short time we had him..

After that we watched a family christmas video from 97 which featured fleeting images of all our deceased family and dogs, it was painfull for us but isn't memory lane often like that? Turning and seeing my wife and kids crying for the loved ones was prolly the hardest thing for me and I was having a tough time keeping it together and after more than a few tears of my own I had to shut it off....

Through it all, I wanted to smoke as it was a social occasion and after two beers it was almost unbearable but with the love and support from the family it was pretty easy to overcome, and we managed it quite well!

That's enough of the online diary, hope you all had as good a night as I did.....

Wow, CHL. What a beautiful night. Miracles and wonder. Matters of the heart.

No smoke in your eyes. Love that your daughter's bf can play. How fortunate for him that you extend yourself and bring him in. A good man. You are.

Like DF wrote, I love reading the day's of our netty friends here. An honor. Another great benefit of not smoking. Meeting all here and getting glimpses into the lives of fellow travelers. A beauty, CHL. Thanks for the post.

How's it going, Grumps? You good? Treating yourself like you'd treat others?

Gentle with yourself?

Smoked for years and years and it was having bad effects on my breathing so trying to quit. Took Chantix for nine days, then said to hell with meds, and going it alone. Haven,t had a Marlboro for over two weeks, how -ever I do get the urge several times a day, but the urge is getting farther apart and easier to get past. Wish me luck. Maybe this can become, "SMOKERS ANONYMOUS" thread. Update, after almost three months I am still smoke free. Yes I still have the occasional urge but it goes away quickly. Proud so many have reported quitting in the many pages of this thread. Please check the following link, it is a great asset to quitting. DF [link to media.wix.com]

Good for you, bravo!

However! I remember reading an article about smokers 60+ and have been smokers for at least 20-25 years, getting cancer after quitting smoking is a higher possibility.

The cig police will downgrade this, but the person who read a similar article will know what I mean.

That's the person I'm looking for here, hopefully :)

I'm always here Bmax. Chalkmark on the bench. I've been working hard not to be hard on myself. When I look at this past year though I realize this has been one of the worst ones on record for me for at least three different reasons and not one of them had to do with my choices. Other people are hell, isn't that what someone once said... lol Anyway, having been through hell i then decided to quit smoking because that's just the LAST thing a normal person would do but so I did and so I am.

It is true I have taken good care of the world but not of myself. It never seemed to be in my nature. I always figured I was helping myself when helping others... but of course that didn't mean I should run myself into the ground for a good cause, but I never did figure that one out. Trying to figure that one out now. I might turn into a selfish total terror over this one. Remind me to be kind.

The smoking is bothering me a bit but for the most part I'm okay. It did indeed increase the cravings, my little faux pas. I'm proud of all of you for being so strong.

Love you all guys. You are rocks peeking out from a sea of chaos. Let the waves wash silk on your cheeks. We endure.

It is very suspicious that the governments want the people to quit smoking.

They are ALWAYS about public's HEALTH and never about the cancer's income....

Hmm......

A mysterious poster from Turkey appears bearing dark tidings of early demise.

Hints of a missing document. Danger down narrow Byzantine alleys.

Is the the Fedora a Fez?

Is our new Turkish friend a Canadian writing quick cryptic notes from a tailor shop in Ankara?

Grumps?

The red river runs at dawn. The coiled snake of smoke has no charmer.

Attaturk. Attitude. Attagirl. Come in from the cold, Grumps.

As you write, under your Turkinsh cover, our time is limited.

(we're just waitin for the documentation to confirm it).

I quit in 03, I did the pumpkin seed method. It took me a trial and era about 7 times over the course of 4 years. Then after smoking about 3 packs a day, one day I just said fuck it, I'm going to replace this habit with a healthy one. Pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. In stoner2 or 3 weeks of eating seeds, and then I stopped. I still to this day enjoy seeds. So happy that I don't smoke.

Success is success even with a seed. Some suck on candy, drink cranberry juice, chew gum, ect, but the fact is replacing smoke with almost any thing is good. Thanks for coming here to share with us. hf DF
