Desert Fox respect to you man, I know how hard it is, I dont smoke but I have a habit im trying to quit.

I know im much better off without it but still its hard.

I guess that's why they call it an addiction.

They say it hijacks part of the brain making you think you NEED it.

Well its true

Good luck my friend
 Quoting: Philligan

It does indeed hijack the brain, like a nicotine virus. Best of luck to ya buddy, whatever the addiction.

Congrats! I quit the 1st part of Sept. after having to be in the Hosp. for a week because I couldnt breathe. I started smoking a lot after I found my 18 yr old son dead. My other children are very happy I stopped. You have all of my support! Keep it up! Although, if I find out the world REALLY IS going to end on Dec. 21, well. I am smoking! LOL

Smoked for years and years and it was having bad effects on my breathing so trying to quit. Took Chantix for nine days, then said to hell with meds, and going it alone. Haven,t had a Marlboro for over two weeks, how -ever I do get the urge several times a day, but the urge is getting farther apart and easier to get past. Wish me luck. Maybe this can become, "SMOKERS ANONYMOUS" thread.
 Quoting: Desert Fox

Good for you. I smoked and dipped off and on for about thirty years and finally gave both up about 8 years ago.

I had quit several times through the years, once for a span of about 3 years and started back during a bad family time,

I plan to stay quit for good now. I am determined that tobacco is not going to run my life.

Stay strong my friend.

Thanks for all the positive comments from those who have quit. I am quitting when the pack runs out (monday or Tuesday). I am starting a lemonade cleanse on Monday and hope that helps.

I responded on page 5 or something. I have decided to give it another go. I got down to about 3 smokes per day last week. Smoked my last cigarette Saturday morning at the golf course and haven't had one since.

The mornings are going to be the hardest, but I think I can pull through. However, I did start with step 2 of the nicoderm patch.

Bottom line, I can't give in once. EVER!

I can't say enough about e-cigarettes or personal vaporizers to quit smoking.

Until I quit (two months ago), I'd tried every "normal way" of stopping smoking imaginable - all was hell. Full of cravings and anger and (yes) sometimes crying and eventually giving in at weak moments.

This time, I bought myself an e-cigarette "kit" (also called a personal vaporizer) and the instant I started using it, I didn't want another cigarette. Ever again. This has remained true for over 10 weeks now.

There was no withdrawal moment, although I did go through the usual smokers detox where I had a cough for a few days. I have suffered ZERO emotional consequences. None. Except for positive ones. I smell everything now. I breathe 100% better. And I don't stink.

I started with a relatively high nicotine level in my "e-liquid" and I've now stepped it WAY down to where I'm almost getting no nicotine a day. At this point, I don't doubt I could remove the nicotine completely and have no issues, but I've actually been reading up on the safety of nicotine (it's no worse for you than caffeine, and it actually offers some health benefits when used sparingly and without all of the organic combustible grossness that comes in real cigarettes).

Anyway.

I'm sharing, because this seriously changed my life. And if you're struggling to get off the cigarettes, or if you're still pulling your hair out with cravings and anger and a feeling of being tempted to go back, check into e-cigarettes.

NOT the ones that they sell at the grocery store. Do a Google search on "e-cigarette forum" or the ecig subreddit to learn more.

It's ... it's a whole new world.

Huge congratulations to you. I smoked as a teen and quit in my early 20s. Then when I lost my mom unexpectedly a few years later, I started up again. Proud to say I haven't had one since the 1st part of September as well. Condolences on your loss. I truly can't imagine. For me, I felt like there was some acceptance of my loss that came along with quitting, since my smoking was tied to a death the way your increase in smoking was. You are STRONG and I know you can stick with it. And I'm with you... I'm lighting up if we know for sure a huge asteroid is coming to kill us all or something! LOL Seriously though. Congrats to you and all who have managed to kill the beast. It is so hard, but it truly is worth it. Tell your brain you are smarter than it is.
