After a while you can taste other peoples smoke, and it doesn't taste good. It tastes foul. I see others smoking in lonely corners behind buildings. I know I can't help them, I know exactly what I would have thought when I smoked if some stranger had come and lectured me.

The decision is yours and yours alone.

Even though I used champix, it was the third time I have done so. I completed that program some months ago.

I have found I have had to reinvent my thought processes. I am becoming one of those people you all know who is disgusted by the smell and taste of cigarettes. I have HAD to do this because I loved them so much, at least, I thought I did.

You see, what really helped me was the realisation that I never really liked them anyway. I never imagined that it was the drug itself that changed my brain into thinking that I liked it. That's what nicotine does.

We falter, we fall, we get back up again. Dont beat yourself up if you have a setback, it's an addiction not some little phase. Some people can quite at the drop of a hat but for most of us it is a HARD HARD road.

It really is worth it, I feel better and better every day and you can too, you really can.

As long as you keep trying you haven't failed.

Nice work everyone!

Day 71 for me toaday and feeling great....

Remember the lung issue that I USED to have? Seems that since I am at 70, and all that time not smoking myself to death, has helped eliminate it! Acute bronchospasms my ass, it was apparently smoking related!

Keep it up everyone, the benefits are enormous!

I am still amazed at how good food tastes now and that I am able to eat the whole portion rather than just picking at it......

In a nutshell, you need to kick the nicotine to the curb and then work on the muscle memory of smoking. The nic is the easy one, it's the act of smoking that's the hardest part and remains the hardest for me....and may others, I'm sure...

I've been quit for 6 months now. For the first 5 months I was on the patch. Then I needed an apendectomy and figured that would be a good time to quit the patch. Well, today I tried the patch again, and now they make me very sick. Can't go down that road again I guess. Doing ok though. Just want to eat all the time.

I am glad the lung thing is clearing up. People who smoke love to use the crutch the doctor gives us, calling it bronchitis, instead of to much smoking. I did it, you did it, as have all who have smoked for many many years. We just can't bear to admit that our lungs are clogged with tar, but can't deny it after being off smokes for a month or two. Have a healthily day my friend. DF

Will be 4 months in just a few days which is the longest I have ever been off cigarettes since starting over 15 years ago.

This thread definately gives me the motivation to keep going because I am watching all of you go through the same process too and of course I want to keep my part of the giving up experience as positive as possible.

I did weaken on 4 separate occasions but it never crossed my mind to start up again and so now with every week; month that goes by it strengthens my resiliance even more.

Keep up the good work my freinds by genuinly supporting those who need your advice and help.

My wife brashly commented today she had not smoked for a whole two days for which I praised her but still I cannot get her to promise to permanantly give up but I know that she is very proud of me for doing so. Still on the mints as they really do keep cravings away especially during the working hours and of course in the pub.

I've been smoking since I was 7 yrs old.
I really started noticing how awful my face looks around
the mouth area. So, my holiday is done now, going home in a few hours.

If I can quit smoking for a month or 2, then I am going to see if
I can get some fillers or botox around the affected areas.

Hopefully this will give me incentive to quit.

Stopping in to get my daily dose of encouragement! Wish I had more time to spend here but even the few minutes I allow myself has helped keep me focused. After a small slip up last weekend I am back on track. It is actually easier than I thought it would be but perhaps that is because I really really wanted to stop!
