Yeah sorry guys, I kinda forgot I was going to quit
today.
well, I knew it in the back of my mind, but pushed it away,
far away everytime I lit one today.
guess I'm not ready yet.

Doh!

I just remembered that I had a hardcore smoking dream last night in which I kept finding myself smoking and just freaking out because I couldnt understand why I kept lighting up!

And here I thought I was over the smoking dreams..... Hopefully this isnt a trend and if it is it may be more of a nightmare.......

you can't get around anxiety.
the only cure for anxiety is to go thru it.

in other words, recognize it for what it is, go with it, feel it, let it pass

do that over and over until anxiety dissipates on its own

until then, it will keep nagging and returning and hounding

yes!

the mind is strange when dealing with thoughts.
when one has an anxious thought, it is impossible to try and not think the thought. when one tries to not think something specific or non-specific, the mind will blare that particular thought on loudspeaker. for example, "do not think of pink elephants swinging from jungle vines in a pink tutu"

immediately the mind creates a visual

the idea is to take the anxious thoughts/feelings and use your inner man to observe them objectively. everyone has the inner man. this is the part of us that is always in check. when our emotions or thoughts are doing one thing, the inner man is the voice that keeps us in check.

when the anxiety emerges, the inner man needs to observe it as if it is standing in the same room (which it is) and watching it from a close proximity. we don't push anxiety away or try to force it to stop. we simply observe it, silently, and be careful to not apply any attachment to it.

it is tricking the mind. well, scratch that. it is utilizing the mind properly while it tries to trick the inner man.

make sense?
 Quoting: Salt

Another trick to reduce the severity of anxiety (or an anxiety attack) is to force yourself to engage in a mental activity or cognition that is governed by a different area/region of the brain than the one that is responsible for creating the anxiety. Forcing oneself to engage in math or computation in your head will temporarily distract you from fueling the anxiety-inducing thoughts. One has to utilize a different area of the cortex to process mathematical computations. This provides a much needed break or gives relief to the over-active area of the brain that was driving the anxious feelings. Upon completion of this it is quite difficult to return to the same level of anxiety that one was feeling prior to diverting their mental energy to a different area of the brain/cortex.

I used this technique for a little awhile when I used to get anxiety. I found a combination of numbers I had difficulty adding/subtracting and it would distract me for a good 5-10 seconds. I really don't get anxiety much anymore so I haven't returned to it but it did serve its purpose and work for me when I did.

There are probably a whole variety of ways to trick the brain into lessening the severity of anxiety-inducing thoughts. Damn over-active left-hemisphere of the brain is the source of much suffering in this world.

Yup, two older brothers. Only 1 of which picked on me (along with his friends). One time while playing hockey a friend of my brothers cornered me and dropped snow from outside the rink down my pants before proceeding to give me a wedgie! I was probably 12 and they were 17 and I took a lot of shit for being a fan of a rival hockey team... Maybe I was re-living a childhood trauma in my dreams, lol.

1dunno1

Speaking of older brothers my one brother was probably the reason why I started smoking. I remember stealing cigarettes from his pack of Marlboro Lights and hiding behind my old elementary school so I could smoke them... In high school I would walk my dog late at night during the week so I could smoke cigs too...

Yes! Art/Creativity is a function of the right-hemisphere of the brain so that should accomplish the job as well... Unfortunately I'm only capable of drawing stick figures so I had to search for other options. I believe when individuals are deeply engaged/focused on their artwork that they are receiving the same benefits/effects as those who engage in meditation. Basically any activity that tells the left-hemisphere (source of the ego) of the brain to 'STFU' is beneficial for the individual.

Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
Good Morning Non-Smokers,

Day 90 today! Hoo-rah-Hoo!

Grateful to reach this milestone on the birth date of Dr. Seuss.

"Oh, the Places You Will Go!"

Here are the things I've learned over the last 90 days:

The urge to smoke will pass whether I smoke or don't smoke.
Cranberry juice is a balm to cravings.
Garlic, Lemon, Apple Cider Vineger, and Cayanne Pepper greatly assist the detox process and do nothing but good, good, good for healing lungs and body.
Water water, water.
The body is an amazing thing and is on our side.

Each day I choose not to smoke, the cigarettes get smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror.

Every aspect of my life was blanketed and smothered by my addiction to cigarettes. I was chained, chippered, and chumped.

Now, I am free from the toxic sticks created to kill me in an insidious, ignoble, slow form of suicide.

Now, I no longer have to smoke.

"Poppa's got a brand new bag."

Much respect to the founder and Patroni, Des Fox; CHL, a constant and voice of reason; Grumps, gone, but never forgotten; Gentle Jah is Jah OneLove; and Solid Sultry Soul Sista' Salt. Ric Roc and Gratia Plenty.

You carried me and brought me to this milestone. I know I would not be smoke-free had it not been for all of you here. I thank you.

And recently, Hawk, Sleeping Giant, Oddballs, and all the others (new and old) bopping in and out to share in the hope and promise of this great notion. I thank you.

On this road together.

"Heart to heart. Hand to hand"

God Bless and Keep you all.

Sweet! A full quarter

I'm coming up on a quarter myself, in 4 days actually and as you said, the urge to smoke is but a fading memory.....

Bless you BX, for succeeding and being such a valuable asset to many on this thread. You are, and have been a roll model to all those trying to quit or thinking about quitting. If I don't show up to say it often enough, know it to be so. hf DF

Each time we hit a milestone of cleaning our blood and body this is what is going on at the cellular level:

Body Regeneration Schedule

Medical Doctors have observed, and published, how long it takes a healthy body to "Regenerate" or "Grow" - NEW Cells, Organs, Skin, Hair, etc.
