Happy Birthday to you...

chorus

Congrats on your decision to end the slavery.
It will be the best present you can ever give yourself.

This thread has been my lifeline throughout my quit process.
I could not have done it without the support of my fellow quitters and the reading of The Easyway to Quit by Allen Carr.

Day 25 for me, Hawk you are right, I think I have this beat!

woohoo

Yesterday I took all 500 odd qtips (representing the smokes I have not smoked) and the $276 I have saved thus far and laid them out on the kitchen table.
All those qtips and all that money in just 24 days.
I mean really think about it, what else do you do 500 times in just 24 days besides breathe.

Good luck on your journey, it's easier than you think to walk away from the evil white cancer sticks once you set your mind to it.

Come back often and share your quit journey with us.
We look forward to having another quitter on the team.

Morning all.

coffee4

Day 25 and all is good.
Even had a glass of vino last night with a friend and didn't succumb to that evil little white stick.

Need to remind myself on a daily basis why I quit, hence the qtip and cash collection I am acquiring. With the cost of a pack between $12 and $14 bucks here, it doesn't take long to add up to some serious cash savings, even when I deduct the cost of my qtips, lol.

To all the newbies, please come join our party, we are ever so happy to have you.
You have made the best decision of your life.

To all of you on the thread without who's support I would never have made it this far, I once again extend my gratitude. You know who you are. hf

Well the man upstairs sure loves to test my resolution to quit smokes by throwing everything but the kitchen sink at me.

This morning at work, I stepped on some ice, went flying in the air and used my hand to save my face.

As soon as I landed I knew my arm was broken.
Called a co-worker for a ride to the hop shop and spent the afternoon in the waiting room, xray, the waiting room, the examination room and finally the cast room. Time in 12:45, time out 4:15.
Not bad, just felt like an eternity.

A girl walked by, cotton gauze over her eye, jacket on over her hospital gown, cig in one hand, lighter in another, headed outside for a smoke.
Didn't bother me in the least.

That was a defining moment for me.

I am a non smoker.

cheerwoohoocheer

Yes it hurts like hell, the arm that is, but I didn't want to turn to a cigarette to soothe what ailed me.

Victory is mine.

Hey AC Canada -

I am sorry for the pain and discomfort of your day.

And I am super happy for your victory...

I love how you use the q-tips also and count them and the money you save - it is a brilliant idea.

Again, my heart is really sorry you broke your arm and have experienced pain.

God, how I miss those heady days of gauze over the eye and a jacket thrown jauntily over my hospital gown. My fashion flamboyance has been on the decline since reaching those heady heights.

So sorry about the arm, Canada. When people suggested you give yourself a break, you didn't fuck around. Took it to heart. That's dedication. Please don't steal or shoplift! Amputating both your hands would make smoking somewhat difficult (although we'd still find a way), but who wants to be known as 'Canada Stumps?'

So happy you had those moments of clarity and brought the cigarette to its right size. Double zero. Lousy deal you were dealt today, but you knew a cigarette would add nothing of value to what you were going through. You saw the lie for what it was and came-out even stronger. Something to be proud of. Seeing the truth. A big fuck you to the boogie man. The truth. Congratulations.

Cast your fate and your arm to the wind, my friend. Strong tail winds are moving you forward on a steady course to the safe harbors of health, esteem, jingle in the pocket, self-love, and life each day.

Cigarettes no longer a ruthless master
Now your arm is wrapped in plaster
Slow on ice or tumbles come faster
You didn't smoke and trumped disaster

Again, great congratulations on a day (and what a fucking day it was for you) well-lived. The best to you.

Smoke-free since February 1, 2013. Yes, I missed it but the urge has now faded into oblivion and will not go back - ever.

I just watched my SIL spend five days in the hospital for breathing problems and she was diagnosed with emphysema. Good reminder as to why to quit.

As for me, no more inhalers, no more relentless coughing, no hacking up mucus, no asthma, no acute bronchitis - am feeling great! I have a new appreciation for my lungs. luvstruk

And now my singing voice has improved significantly. Don't run out of breath and I'm hitting those high notes - finally.

Thanks for all the support on this thread - you guys are awesome. hf

Just remember, sooner or later we all quit smoking. thumbs

Congrats, Anon. Feb 1 quit and you're fast approaching two months. April 1 will not find a fool in you. What a great accomplishment.

Sorry to hear about you sil. Terrible, terrible stuff. And, yes, those lungs are priceless.

Like you, being able to sing again is worth its weight in all that is precious. Like I did with my three older children, I sing to my three-year-old each night. Toward the end of my smoking some months ago, I'd run-out of steam half-way through my songs to her and my voice would crack and break. I was beginning to sound like Kathleen Turner with a head-cold. Now, just a few months later, I can get through Harry Chapin's "Taxi" without missing a beat (the kids like the long story behind the song, but I have to change some of the lyrics).

Great to have air. Great to be able to sing. Great not to huff, weeze, and pant.

Congratulations to you and many more days, months, and years smoke-free to you.
