Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
Great for you! I smoked for many years and quit in 2001. I've found that, when I occasionally get the urge for a smoke, it helps me to swish some mint flavored mouthwash in my mouth. I know it sounds kooky, but anything that works to keep from relapsing is worth a try.
Again, congratulations

sounds good to me. ima try that.

Hang in there. I quit 18 years ago. I was a heavy duty chain smoker 2 plus packs a day. The last two years I smoked I hated it, it was purely addiction at that point.

Don't worry about the cravings, get into exercise and give it time.

My late husband quit smoking about 7 years before he passed away. He told me that YEARS after he quit, he still had dreams where he was smoking and enjoying it so MUCH that when he woke up he actually thought that he'd begun smoking again for a few moments!

Don't give up, Fox! You'll feel crappy for 2 - 3 months, but that's just your body getting rid of all that gunk from your lungs, etc.

I've been trying to talk myself into giving it another run at quitting, I know it's not good for me and it's so EXPENSIVE!!!!

Keep us posted on how you're doing, OK? hf bump

Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
I quit sometime before summer (I've lost track) and its been great. I smoked for 15 years or so. It's incredible how alert and focused my brain became after I quit. I couldn't believe how much those things were affecting my mental health. Blew me away. I had no idea.

I bought a nice e-cigerette for when the urges kick in from time to time and that has helped me tremendously. I take a couple puffs off that thing when I get a little frazzled and I'm good. Probably more of a mental thing for me, then actually needing nicotine. I don't crave cigs at all anymore... Even the smell of them pisses me off now.

The first week is brutal though.. If you can get through the first week, you should be good to go and the urge will slowly fall off.

Good luck to you man, you will feel MUCH better once you're out of the woods. Stay strong!

I quit for a year once, and I bought these nasty ass non tobacco smokes.. my boss thought i was smoking weed outside... but those things did the trick for the first week or so... The hardest part is the first week. Yes there is always the craving... I should not have surrounded myslef around a bar crowd.. Damn it! Not one, if you quit, you can never have one again. :/

okay, here is an advice from me: when I was little, dad used to smoke a lot. In our small village, all the smokers stopped smoking but he was the only one who was smoking until he started to have breathing problems like you do. Then he stopped, and he was cheating(meaning pretendingthat he had quit when he smelled of smoke) like that! but the other ex-smokers in our village stopped because they used to buy mint candies, and suck them when they had a craving, so far everybody stopped smoking using that method.

Those candies are French candies and they are in mint.

I help you with this even if one time you said bad things about muslims (and it's not because I love ISLAM) but because I don't like hatred and my parents are "still" muslims even though I decided that was not the religion for me.
anyway, good luck to you and hopefully you will kick the habit
love your avatar by the way!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19429607

Thanks a lot. There must be something to the mint thing, others have mentioned mint. As for the Muslim post, I don't hate Muslims, but I do hate radicalized Muslims that cut heads off, stone young girls and such. No hard feeling toward you, and thank you for the encouragement.
 Quoting: Desert Fox

Yes mint is good, you need to buy the candies you can keep in your mouth aslong as possible. You know what I think? I think that the fact you breath in the mint through your nose (like you do when you smoke, I am picturing my dad having smoke coming from his nose) helps in relieving the craving. I heard eating an apple will help or thinking about something else but I don't agree because I gather that smoking is an HABIT more than anything else, meaning you pick up the cigarette and put it to your mouthon adaily basis etc... so that's the hard part.
Once you quit the HABIT you will be free.

Yes, about the religion discussion(I don't want to change subject but I'll answer this) I know I also have hard time about the things you are describing such as stoning etc... there are some individuals like me who have families who grew up in a muslim family where those things DO NOT HAPPEN but they are still called muslims. Some people like me are raised as muslims but when they grow up they decide for themselves (is this religion normal?why did they choose this for me?etc...). Once you change your view about religion, meaning religion is just like clothing one day you realise this doesn't suit you, then maybe you can understand that it has to do with brainwashing and the way you were raised (my parentss' parents were muslims and for me my parents are just following their footsteps).

There are members on this forum who tend to go overboard such as the one with the cartoon character and guns.I know he can be very hateful.

I feel the same pain when I read about people who criticize Christians because all in all we do not detain the truth, we are just living a so called "life". There is a fine line between discussion and hatred and myself I found myself hating and it's not a good energy. We have just to pray (any kind of positive prayer) for those who are brainwhsed and commit murder in the name of religion.

By the way, your avatar remind me of something that happened to me: one day I was sick and I saw a man,an angel (small size) with a feather in his hair, putting light around my body, he was amerindian, had a white pants with red belt. I had some kind of respiratory flu that day and felt I was leaving my body.

No hard feelings, love and keepup the good work!

I've been VAPING with my new Smoke Stik for a week.

I used to smoke 1-2 packs a day, but now I'm only smoking 7-10 "real" cigarettes a day - only because I have to order more E-cigs. One isn't enough... got to recharge battery and refill cartomizer. LOL

Once I get some more, I'm sure I can give real cigs up for good !!! Don't know about the nicotine, though. I guess I could cut the strength down gradually and then just "vape" the great variety of e-flavors ????

My apartment smells so much better already, as do my clothes, my hair, my car.....

Wish I had done this earlier !!!

Good luck to you, OP. I absolutely couldn't even attempt "cold turkey". hf

Well done op, I gave up at the beginning of the year using patches. Here's a tip, try buying something weekly (treat) with the money you save, it helped me. I started buying an ounce or so of Silver a week with mine, at the end of the year what would have been 150 or so empty cigarette packs will now be a table full of Silver coins :) Keep it up, the cravings should nearly be gone soon.

WELL DONE!

p.s. i do miss the trippy dreams i was getting from the patches though. grinning

I also quit just a couple weeks ago .. been a smoker almost 20 yrs a pack a day ...I took chantix for about a week, that helped but now i cant even stand the smell of it .. my hubby tried to quit same time i did and he held out about a week. I found a website that had so many horror stories about smoking on it I basically scared myself into quitting lol. I want to be alive to see my grandchildren. The websites motto is "Never take another puff" and I won't. I can breathe so much better now and no caughing anymore. Stick with it .. it takes 72 hrs for the nicotine to get out of the system after that the cravings are in your head. Good luck to you ! :)

Hang in there. I quit 18 years ago. I was a heavy duty chain smoker 2 plus packs a day. The last two years I smoked I hated it, it was purely addiction at that point.

Don't worry about the cravings, get into exercise and give it time.

Whoa....2 PaCKS A DAY? what was your pack of choice? I now smoke american spirits and it seems that the cravings are not half as bad as normal brands...

WELL DONE!

p.s. i do miss the trippy dreams i was getting from the patches though. grinning

Silver, good idea. I was spending more than an once of silver each week.

Therefor you'll be able to stack more lol. (I was smoking about 50 bucks(NZ) a weeks worth). I was wanting to get into Silver for a while but felt i could'nt afford it until i gave up smoking. I get the buzz of shopping for it and spending the money, where in effect i'm really exchanging it for something thats going to be worth much more in the future. WIN WIN :)
