Anonymous Coward User ID: 2950303 United States 10/26/2012 09:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The most important thing? To get your free will back into your control. You have invested your free will into a chemical and behavioral dependency? Take the dependency and own it in segments the way you owned it in segments to get where you are? Q: Did you start smoking by saying to yourself all at once that you were going to start smoking for the rest of your life..? Q: why would you stop by saying all at once that you were going to stop smoking for the rest of your life..? When you get up in the morning when you first come to, you decide if you need or want to smoke and when - You decide by your own free will if you need or want to smoke - and when - You then make the definite decision to over rule with a time out that, looking at the clock says: if, and, exactly when. You name the time. You exert exact and exacting Iron Will Control in the same decisive active free will segments you got to where you are by. It could be any small segment of time that you decide to say " I Choose not to smoke right now ! " Fiercely ! You say to yourself when the time set comes " I will take up the matter then from scratch whether I need to or want to smoke at that time. Period " You did not pre-decide to get into it ..? You must Break Up the pre-deciding mechanism operating without your Specific "at that time" decision process. You can gain an Iron Will and use any habit or oppressor attempting inroads into your sovereign free will Life as practice for cause effect learning rewarding. You Must Go to where the inroad is and own it. It could be 15 minutes It could be any segment of time It could be at random But YOU decide the time Get BACK your Full Free Will Fierceness YOU decide the Time If the body has need for a bait and switch to alter and adjust blood sugar ( which for some is a huge part of the active chemical dependency, then you have non-GMO ripened fruit you discipline your buying habits at the store to always have on hand, that you may peel and slowly piece by piece - enjoying it for the full emotional and physical satisfaction of eating a delicious piece of natural fruit every time you choose to over rule the chemical dependency. |

The first time I lasted for about seven months before relapsing in a drunk haze...man did that suck or what? Anyhow, right now I am absolutely clean, it even got to the point where I absolutely can't stand sitting or standing next to someone who smokes, even if it's outside. I guess it jut goes to prove that ex-smokers are the most militant non-smokers out there..LOL Gone bezerkin... :battleflag: |

WOW Desert your doing great, and to see Hawk and the others getting on board. CONGRATULATIONS to all of you! I am on day 85 And WOULD have smoked 1,708.51 cigs. YUK! Oh And I have also saved $580.00!!!!!!! A little update on me. When I decided to quit on Aug 1st I also went on a healthy eating diet AND quit all caffine (Im a BIG coffee drinker). Everyone said I was out of my mind, but I figured if I am going to do this, I am going all out! I quit the coffee in fear of it being a trigger to go back to smoking. The dieting was a result of being afraid I would pack on the lbs! When I quit I was 187, I am not 173 and holding. I would not even call it a diet it is more like instead of Oreos for a snack I have switched to fruit, and ALL I drink is water now (maybe juice here and there). Well to update on that I JUST started having a coffee here and there in the mornings. Can I say I felt guilty even getting the coffee!! LOL But after a few sips and keeping my mind off of smoking, Though I MISS coffee and smokes, I don't NEED a smoke to have coffee! I also have the mentality that I WILL NOT let some chemical or big corporation control my mind!!! (If I did I would be quite the hypocrite on GLP lol)!! Well anyways GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS too ALL of you who have decided to challenge yourselves and your minds!! :) OH and for the poster who said wheezing was an indicator to stop, I can assure you that 2 months into not smoking and my wheezing has STOPPED! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 4727082 United States 10/26/2012 10:27 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I quit smoking when I found out that I was pregnant, and didn't smoke again until my first semester back in college after 10 years. It started with two a day...then four...now I'm up to 6 and will probably go higher until I quit again. I want to quit, and keep telling myself 'tomorrow...tomorrow...tomorrow...' Then my husband buys another couple of packs...when my son goes down for a nap I smoke a couple...while he's playing in his room I will go out to the kitchen porch...after he goes to bed I smoke another three. My husband and I do not get along and thankfully we're hardly around one another (or can fake it) while my son is awake. I think we're both afraid of how bad the fights will get if we're jonesing for a cigarette. Anyone have any advice???? |

Discover and reconcile the deep-seeded conflicts that cause you to not get along. What you fight about day-to-day probably has nothing at all to do with the real reasons for animosity. Age matters not - your son knows the faked behavior - and right now, at this very moment, you and your husband are actively engaged in raising your son to live his life by putting up a front and faking his emotions in his family life. I long used the same excuse to not quit - that my daughter's mother and I would fight to such escalations that it would be counter-productive. Intuitively, though, I always knew that this would ultimately result in the real issues between us coming to light. And I knew there was no reconciliation to be had between us. And yet I still wanted my daughters to be able to have her in their lives as completely as possible. Now she's moved out since a couple weeks ago and my final excuse to not quit has expired. I envy your strength in moderation to regularly limit your cigarettes to 2, 4, or 6 a day. Provided my advice didn't come off as too curt and my intentions aren't misplaced, I could sure use some advice/tips on a workable plan to keep to a small 'fall-back' minimum of a few smokes a day :) BTW, OP - thanks for the thread :) |

The day-to-day stuff is not the problem. We absolutely do not smoke in the house, and I don't feel comfortable smoking anywhere around my son. Since I am a stay-at-home mother/full time student, I don't really have an opportunity to light one up unless he is 100% occupied for 5 minutes. Even then I've got the monitor or look in on him in his room through the window. I am not a cold-turkey person. I HAVE to cutback or else my self-control is outrageous. I don't like quick change...I like a gradual progression. I took the total number of cigarettes that I would smoke per day (30 [I worked in over 40 hrs a week in a restaurant that is all-smoking-seating]) and cut that in half. I progressed down like that over the week, each day cutting the amount in half. I think I was in denial of really being pregnant for the first month, and everyone in the restaurant knew it would be hard so they helped nag me. By the end of the week I was only allowing myself 2-3 a day. Starting the next Monday, I had one and then Tuesday it was zero. I have, unfortunately, used that same method to start smoking again. |

I don't have the time to reply to all the great comments on this thread, but yours caught my eye, thanks for the great post. :TOMABANEFOX: It's more humane this way ya know, or burn on totem pole. Choice is yours. |
