Desert, just noticed you made the month mark!! Bummed i missed it but please accept my retro congrat-u-fucking-lations!!!banana2

As you know, i will be quitting next month. Although I am ready now, I will wait for my wife who is going to try hypnosis(got it as a gift so wth). Man i cant wait to be unchained from this filthy habit.

I quit for a year about 10 years ago now(arrghhh). I recall having an epiphany of sorts one day. Upon quitting, while driving to work, I would see or smell other drivers smoking. I would get all agitated and wish i could have one...JUST ONE!!! So this went on for a while, about a month i guess, and then one day i saw someone smoking and i found i didn't want one. I realized that I am no longer envious of that person because they can smoke, but rather that person, if they could know I'm winning the fight, is envious of me!

Even the ones who proclaim to love smoking know that they are slaves and wish they could put them down for good.

You are succeeding....keep it up!!!!

Thank you very much, a wishing you both much success when you go for it. Unchained is a good description.

Wahey all cravings have gone now. I can actually hold a cigarette and have no desire to smoke it.

The way I did it was, thus: I went cold turkey for three days, yet on the third day the cravings became immense and I was moody as hell. So I decided to have one cig. Then I went cold turkey again. I didn't get any cravings for another 5 days, so I lit one up. I noticed this time around, that a quarter of the way through the cig, it made me feel sick, so I stubbed it out.

Now I'm completely over my nicotine addiction, and I think it only took me just over two weeks to quit.

It helps to observe others who don't smoke and see what they do... I used to smoke cigs and herb... cigs was the toughest, but observing others helped a lot... just to remember what it was like not to have to smoke...

If you are into Christ, the Lord's payer works for a lot of things... I use it all the time when something isn't right physically or if I crave something I'd rather not...

fasting is also a great way to detach from the material desires... 3-5 day water fast crushes most habits...

I am going cold turkey starting today, been smoking 30 years. I have quit before many times but never cold turkey. I think it will be the hardest yet best way. just get it all over with. not working right now so seems like a good time to do.

Sorry to hear it, but don't let one smoke get in your way. It's okay to slip every now and again.. We are all human.

Just acknowledge it and move on.

Good luck to you, but sure all will be fine.

Smoked for years and years and it was having bad effects on my breathing so trying to quit. Took Chantix for nine days, then said to hell with meds, and going it alone. Haven,t had a Marlboro for over two weeks, how -ever I do get the urge several times a day, but the urge is getting farther apart and easier to get past. Wish me luck. Maybe this can become, "SMOKERS ANONYMOUS" thread.

Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
After 15 years of smoking, I tried quiting with Chantix about 5 years ago and it worked for about 3 months until I went to a party. The issue was that I still wanted to smoke very badly and when the opportunity was there I took it. Since then I just resigned myself to the fact that I was a smoker.

This past February I moved into a new place and my neighbors were visibly disgusted by my smoking, and so over time I didn't smoke as much at home. Now I am down to 2 or 3 cigs per day. The morning coffee cig, the end of my work day cig, and my "nightcap" before bed. On days I don't work I just have the morning and night one. Now the morning one is getting to be much longer after waking up and sometimes not at all as I'd rather sleep a little longer.

For me, it just phased itself out over time. If I would've TRIED I would've failed, because I would place too much pressure on myself. I did this with drinking too. 6 years ago I was a daily drinker and had trouble sleeping if I didn't drink. I got sick, was on medication that I wasn't allowed to drink with and broke my routine. I tried to drink a few times, but let me tell you, alcohol on chemo just makes you sicker!

So I guess I don't have any tricks other than you just have to be ready to be finished and then quit. I find I don't really enjoy it anymore, so why am I wasting the money? I guarantee though if I put my mind to it to "quit" the few I do smoke I will probably not succeed, so I will let myself naturally quit.

Congrats to everyone who has done it with their own methods! It proves that you have ultimate control over your existance!

I’m back and I’m winning. Quit with my wife Thanksgiving night and am 100% nicotine free for coming on 4 days. Turned out it was a great time to quit. Long weekend at home, plenty of leftover food to lessen daily responsibilities. We pretty much puttered around, bitched at each other and the kids, took naps, drank water and cranberry juice, bitched and moaned some more and now here we are. I had both nicorette gum and an e-cig at home; neither of us has touched either one. We don’t want to prolong our withdrawal and that’s exactly what these aids do. We want every last fucking molecule of nicotine metabolized out of our systems. Taking in ANY sort of nicotine at this point puts us straight back to square one; I want no fucking part of going through this past weekend again….EVER. I know the fight will be on-going for a long while but I also know the worse of the pain and misery is over. It’s nice to be over the early stages of life sucking because you cannot smoke and into the stages of identifying the positive aspects of being free.

This really helped me a lot: [link to whyquit.com]
Nice thing about ntap is that each chapter is no more than 2 pages so I could grab my ipad and knock out a couple chapters for support/motivation. An above poster mentioned Alan Carr. I read his easyway book on drinking; I can imagine his smoking book is just as good.

I also downloaded the no smoking ipad app. Nice to see a running tally of how many smokes you have NOT had and how much money you HAVE saved.

Good luck to all in the midst of the fight and to all gearing up to enter the ring. One round at a time….it may not seem so but it is a winnable battle!! I (25 year smoker) am proof as are many others here.
I will be back with updates and to offer support for others.
