I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 27838545 United States 11/26/2012 01:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I’m back and I’m winning. Quit with my wife Thanksgiving night and am 100% nicotine free for coming on 4 days. Turned out it was a great time to quit. Long weekend at home, plenty of leftover food to lessen daily responsibilities. We pretty much puttered around, bitched at each other and the kids, took naps, drank water and cranberry juice, bitched and moaned some more and now here we are. I had both nicorette gum and an e-cig at home; neither of us has touched either one. We don’t want to prolong our withdrawal and that’s exactly what these aids do. We want every last fucking molecule of nicotine metabolized out of our systems. Taking in ANY sort of nicotine at this point puts us straight back to square one; I want no fucking part of going through this past weekend again….EVER. I know the fight will be on-going for a long while but I also know the worse of the pain and misery is over. It’s nice to be over the early stages of life sucking because you cannot smoke and into the stages of identifying the positive aspects of being free. This really helped me a lot: [link to whyquit.com] Nice thing about ntap is that each chapter is no more than 2 pages so I could grab my ipad and knock out a couple chapters for support/motivation. An above poster mentioned Alan Carr. I read his easyway book on drinking; I can imagine his smoking book is just as good. I also downloaded the no smoking ipad app. Nice to see a running tally of how many smokes you have NOT had and how much money you HAVE saved. Good luck to all in the midst of the fight and to all gearing up to enter the ring. One round at a time….it may not seem so but it is a winnable battle!! I (25 year smoker) am proof as are many others here. I will be back with updates and to offer support for others. Wow, I will have to look for the app. It sounds like what I need. Very encouraging to see everyone quit smoking! I need to so bad. I hate it. I quit with my pregnancies, but started again after I was done breastfeeding them. :( I switched to the natural/organic ciggies a few years ago, they are so darn expensive. My hubby is going to quit with me this time, our date is Jan 1st. I'm excited and I think we will do great. We have each other for support and I know that is really what I need...a quitting buddy! So good luck and congratulations to everyone!! |

This is DAY 1 and it already sucks! But I want to do this and even if I didn't, it wouldn't matter...considering I'm flat broke. I smoked my last one last night and this morning....half last night and the other half I smoked this morning as soon as I woke up. Please anyone who can, send me positive energy...prayers...whatever you wish to call it. Thanks |

Desert Fox (OP) User ID: 8786935 United States 11/27/2012 07:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | After 15 years of smoking, I tried quiting with Chantix about 5 years ago and it worked for about 3 months until I went to a party. The issue was that I still wanted to smoke very badly and when the opportunity was there I took it. Since then I just resigned myself to the fact that I was a smoker. Quoting: KungPowMeowMeow This past February I moved into a new place and my neighbors were visibly disgusted by my smoking, and so over time I didn't smoke as much at home. Now I am down to 2 or 3 cigs per day. The morning coffee cig, the end of my work day cig, and my "nightcap" before bed. On days I don't work I just have the morning and night one. Now the morning one is getting to be much longer after waking up and sometimes not at all as I'd rather sleep a little longer. For me, it just phased itself out over time. If I would've TRIED I would've failed, because I would place too much pressure on myself. I did this with drinking too. 6 years ago I was a daily drinker and had trouble sleeping if I didn't drink. I got sick, was on medication that I wasn't allowed to drink with and broke my routine. I tried to drink a few times, but let me tell you, alcohol on chemo just makes you sicker! So I guess I don't have any tricks other than you just have to be ready to be finished and then quit. I find I don't really enjoy it anymore, so why am I wasting the money? I guarantee though if I put my mind to it to "quit" the few I do smoke I will probably not succeed, so I will let myself naturally quit. Congrats to everyone who has done it with their own methods! It proves that you have ultimate control over your existance! Thanks so much for your story of eventual success. DF :TOMABANEFOX: It's more humane this way ya know, or burn on totem pole. Now he was having 1/2 of the other lung removed. I decided right then and there that I didn't need them any more. The month that I was in the hospital did a good job of detoxing me of everything, to include cigarettes. Now, I use a 14mg patch and an electronic cigarette which I can use anywhere, to include in the hospital. I decided that I would not be the type of person that tells others to stop smoking. Nope! However, I will hope and pray that they never go through what I did... a Stroke that might have been prevented if I was not a smoker. So, you have my total support, my friend. And if you need someone to talk to... I'm here for ya. Brent (SGT Prepper) |

I hope you haven't suffered too many ill effects from the stroke, but good for you for committing to not going back to the trap. Even with 3 weeks in the hospital, there are too many who go back. My aunt, for example. Threw a blood clot to the kidney, lost the kidney, and spent 2 weeks in the hospital. First thing she did when she stepped outside was have one. Anyway, I wish you a speedy recovery. |

I haven't smoked since October, but am now addicted to the damn patch (14mg.) The dreams go away after a while, but I had a few nightmares. |
