Good Morning - As I write it's Saturday morning. I've set my quit time for Sunday evening. Smoked since I was 13 (back in the day here in the Bronx we'd hustle-up to cigarette machines in bowling alleys, pool halls, slap in the quarters and pull out a pack or we'd get cartons that "fell-off a truck). I've been smoking so long it's part of my breathing mechanism.
In addition to the physical addiction, I find smoking puts up a screen between me and the world and it also provides an emotive pause (if I want to tell someone to take a flying F#ck at a rolling donut, I simply have a smoke and the moment passes) that quells knee-jerk reactions.
Every aspect of my life is touched by smoking. Every activity takes my smoking into consideration. In short, I've become a slave and I choose to break the chains this weekend. That said, the thought of quitting frightens me (you know, give me a rut and I'll furnish it). It frightens me.
I'm grateful you posted this thread and continue to come back to it. Thanks for that. Good luck to all of you and all good things to you.
Quoting: BxMac Hey Mac. Sounds to me like you have given this a lot of thought. Much of what you said sounded just like me. Quitting smoking seems to be in the air these past couple of months. Me, my son and my sister. None of us knew the others had quit. We just did and you will too. You will feel so proud of yourself when you are done. Good luck and stand strong.
