Should have put a patch on at two but Imma see how long till I REALLY start craving and I'll see if I can get past it, if not.....patch on! Whoever posted the link to Allan Carrs easyway....thanks! I like the ideas Carr presents and how important perception is. I found myself saying, "damn, I'm a non smoker and it's pretty freakin' amazing," Pretty damn happy about and wish I would have quit 40 years ago. Grat stuff. Good luck with your next 24, CHL2T, and to all out there. All best. - Mac |

Desert Fox (OP) User ID: 8786935 United States 12/07/2012 10:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I’m back and I’m winning. Quit with my wife Thanksgiving night and am 100% nicotine free for coming on 4 days. Turned out it was a great time to quit. Long weekend at home, plenty of leftover food to lessen daily responsibilities. We pretty much puttered around, bitched at each other and the kids, took naps, drank water and cranberry juice, bitched and moaned some more and now here we are. I had both nicorette gum and an e-cig at home; neither of us has touched either one. We don’t want to prolong our withdrawal and that’s exactly what these aids do. We want every last fucking molecule of nicotine metabolized out of our systems. Taking in ANY sort of nicotine at this point puts us straight back to square one; I want no fucking part of going through this past weekend again….EVER. I know the fight will be on-going for a long while but I also know the worse of the pain and misery is over. It’s nice to be over the early stages of life sucking because you cannot smoke and into the stages of identifying the positive aspects of being free. This really helped me a lot: [link to whyquit.com] Nice thing about ntap is that each chapter is no more than 2 pages so I could grab my ipad and knock out a couple chapters for support/motivation. An above poster mentioned Alan Carr. I read his easyway book on drinking; I can imagine his smoking book is just as good. I also downloaded the no smoking ipad app. Nice to see a running tally of how many smokes you have NOT had and how much money you HAVE saved. Good luck to all in the midst of the fight and to all gearing up to enter the ring. One round at a time….it may not seem so but it is a winnable battle!! I (25 year smoker) am proof as are many others here. I will be back with updates and to offer support for others. Thanks for your whyquit.com link, others are finding it helpful. Hoping you are still smoke free. DF :TOMABANEFOX: It's more humane this way ya know, or burn on totem pole. Choice is yours. |
CHL2T User ID: 989605 United States 12/08/2012 01:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | On hour 20 without the patch, finding it difficult to concentrate, didn't sleep for shit last night but that is to be expected. I am doing better than I thought I would be at this point but I'm feeling like I am having mini panic attacks in place of the craving for a cigarette.....strange to say the least. |
BxMac User ID: 18472095 United States 12/08/2012 03:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | CHL2T - I hear you on the fog. There seems to be a haze in front of me and I'm having a tough time concentrating. I also have that "empty" feeling that Carr writes of and, of course, it's more than likely the addiction clamoring to offer the fill via nicotine. I'm taking it an hour at a time and if I begin to flip I'm slapping on a patch or chewing some nic gum. Yesterday, the nurse at my son's school called to say he was sick and asked that I come to pick him up (he was a little stuffed-up, but if you sneeze at his school they break-out the hazmat suits; real pc drama knuckleheads). The school is in the 70s on the Westside and we live in the 230s off of Broadway so I was facing a drive down the Westside Hwy on a Friday (if hell has concrete, it's either the Westside Hwy or the Deegan). Remarkably, driving without the smokes was easy and I felt like I was on the other side of putting the cigs down. Today, with no obligations, I find myself with that uncomfortable "empty" feeling. I guess I'm too much in my head and the old "move a muscle change a thought" rule applies. Think I'll go for a walk and burn some angst off. I'm pulling for you CHL. Eyes on the prize and all that stuff. The urge will pass whether we smoke or not so we'd be crazy to smoke. Best to you. - Mac |
CHL2T User ID: 989605 United States 12/08/2012 06:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks Mac, you too keep up the hard work.... It has officially been over 24 hours since the one and only patch came off and I am doing rather well I think.... The feeling of hunger that they say accompanies withdrawal is moot for me as I starve myself regularly and I have no idea how to eat. Feelings of anxiety are easily attributed to smoking weed so that symptom is also allayed.... I am feeling a little tired as well but again nothing that is out of the ordinary..... The only noticable symptom is the fast moving emotional rollercoaster that I am on. Learning to not smoke is actually very easy once I realized that doing them without smoking is more enjoyable than when I was. I am really confident that I am going to make it Thanks for the support, it really means a lot :) |

BxMac User ID: 18472095 United States 12/09/2012 04:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | CHL how goes the good fight today? Hope this finds you well with the thought of a cig receding and getting smaller as the clean hours take us from the slavery to the bigger thoughts of health and abundant life. Grumpy, I hear you on fiending and grabbing the clip from the car ashtray. That shit will talk to you. No shame in that. If you want to quit, you'll do it. You've come to the right place and we're pulling for you. I've been drinking cranberry juice for the last week and use it (swish around in my mouth) to curb the urges and it seems to help when it gets bad. That said, time makes the urges come less and less and when they do come they don't pack that maddening punch that would have me scrambing and fiending for a smoke. Good luck with it and stick close to this thread (DesFox, the OP of this great thread comes back daily and CHL and I have been posting since starting our run to freedom). You can have some pals walk through it with you. Anon UK, pulling for you and your start date tomorrow. I did the same thing last week. Sunday I smoked like a chimney and woke-up Monday as day-one clean. Like you, smoked many years (40 to be precise and two packs a day for the last few years) and just knew it was time. If I can make one suggestion, start tomorrow with no expectations as to what kicking is going to be like. I thought I'd be confessing to the Lindberg kidnapping or Jimmy Hoffa's whereabouts, but it hasn't been as terrible as I anticipated. That's not to say there haven't been some dodgey moments, but it certainly hasn't been as horriffic as I thought it would be and it sure as hell is better than chemo or walking around with one of those oxygen things. The nice thing is you don't have to do it alone and we can all ride it out together. Thanks to all for being here (and, again, DesFox, for starting this thread - it's a homerun and it's helped me immensely). Together we can do what we can't do alone. Grateful to you all - Mac |
