hfHey all
Havn't been around for awhile; Looks like everyone is doing great with new recruits coming on board often. Awesome!!
Saw a couple references to some e-book links I posted; I'll repost here for the new recruits
[link to whyquit.com]
[link to media.wix.com]

Both are helpful but if I had to choose one, I would choose Alan Carr’s Easy Way. For you active quitters as well as ones toiling with the idea of quitting, read a page, a chapter, the whole thing…I guarantee it will provide some insight and help.

DF, you’re like the wise old man and non smoking veteran of the thread. You have provided an invaluable service to us all; my heartfelt thanks.

BxMac and CHL, you two seem to be DF’s star students at the moment; stay strong!!

In hopes to provide some inspiration, after having smoked for 25 years, tomorrow at midnight will be 3 weeks with absolutely no nicotine. Fucking, fuck yeah!!! Urges pass quickly, I feel so much better, I smell so much better, my bank account thanks me, my young kids are forgetting daddy ever smoked, blood pressure down. I no longer feel like I have a void in my life or like I broke up with my best friend. Life is better without the cigarettes. Health is now my best friend.

For those of you reading this thread and considering quitting, If you have some time off from work around the holidays, that is a great opportunity. The first 3 days are a real bitch so if you can stock up on easily prepared food and drink and stay home, chances of success may increase. This is how I quit right after thanksgiving.

Keep it up everyone, it gets easier and better everyday!hf

so much for trying to actually accomplish anything today

i have been battling this cig addiction for awhile

smoked a pack a day for few years

recently about 6-7 a day...

but the last few months rather than enjoying the cigarette smoking, it became a form of suffering for me. I used to enjoy it, but now my body is trying to tell me to stop. Its begging me to quit smoking cigarette. I don't listen though, i will go for a few days, even a few weeks, but none the less i start smoking again

i realize if i keep smoking the way I'm going i am going to really damage my body

i hope i can have the strength to go without.. had 3 already today

but not planning on having another

went out and bought a e-cig but not the same thing and quite frankly i don't trust those things...

Cut step 1 patches in halfs then quarters as you step down. Saves money.

Congrats to all of us who have quit smoking.
It will be 16 years for me in Feb 2013.
Best thing I ever did for myself.
To anyone thinking about it. Just go for it.
I smoked close to two packs a day and most of my friends didn't think I could ever quit.
I did it cold turkey but whatever way works for you.
Don't be a cigarette whore. Don't let the those Corporations charge you money to poison you. They killed my brother he didn't make it to his 50th Birthday. Small cell lung cancer directly linked to smoking cigarettes that's what got him. Don't let them turn you into a statistic.

Grumpy, Day Three. Huge. Congratulations. No coughing, what a concept! You're doing, Not going around, under or over, you're just going right through it.

How's the emotional weather report? No matter your thoughts/feelings regarding this, the fact is you're starting your third day and each breath, minute, and hour confirms and cements your newly reclaimed freedom. So very happy for you, friend. Please stay close. - Mac

I smoked for 30 yrs. Gave up about the exact time this thread started, so it has helped me a lot. I was smoking a pack a day, but had at one time been smoking 2 packs per day. I quit cold turkey but still have the 3/4 of a pack in my office desk. Gives me peace of mind. I have now saved enough money that I bought a treadmill and now work out 30 minutes a day. Life is way better, clothes, cars etc all smell way better.

Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
Holy Shit, CHL, me too. I didn't want to post and break anyone's momentum, but from the moment I woke-up this morning I've been restless, irritable, and discontent.

I don't know if I've given myself a pass to ease off and release my grip (prior to today I've been extremely vigilant and my full focus has been on not smoking), but today I just felt exhausted. And while I didn't have great urges, my mental guard was down and I had that empty feeling that I know is a step closer to a smoke. It's almost similar to a train going 80 miles an hour and then the brakes are pressed to the floor. There's still going to be some forward momentum and given the time I have clean it's expected that some days are going to be better than others (and thus far it's been a much more positive ride than I ever could have hoped for which, ultimately, I should be pretty grateful for).

All said, I didn't pick-up a smoke and at least we have the presence of mind to say it what's going in out loud (thanks for being the trail blazer on that, CHL). No judgements on myself and no expectations. Just the knowledge that there is no fucking way I can ever safely pick-up one cigarette without being right back in the absolute bilge water of slavery I've known for the better part of my life.

As always, it's nice to know I'm not alone in this.

Not alone at all friend.....

On a positive note, and this could be related to the urges today but who knows the mind? surely not me..... Anyway, yesterday I had to pick up my son from his after school thing and from the moment I fired up the truck all the way to the school and waiting for what semed to be an eternity, embarrasing him in front of his girlfriends and finally driving to little ceasars for a "five dollar hottie" and then home..........

I DIDN'T THINK OF SMOKING ONCE!!!!!

I think of that today and it just blows me away how it is so much like a switch going off on off on off on off on................

Rambling here......
later, and be strong everybody

Day 4: Did not have immediate craving upon wakening. Yay! Emotionally fragile. Had a friend coming over who smokes. Went to bed last night fighting with myself. Thank God, she cancelled. I'm not sure I was that strong. Emotionally flat really. Not sure about those little mini rages that come racing in out of the blue. Can't predict them. But waking up without the thought of a cigarette was pretty nice. Hanging on by my thread today. Still here. Not dead yet.

I'm also afraid of upsetting things coming along. Now I've decided that upsetting things always happen and my addicted brain just chooses to interpret all bad things into a cigarette. My addicted brain is very clever at using everything as an excuse. Not this time. The world can come to an end and I will not buy a pack of cigarettes. Well... maybe if the world REALLY is coming to an end I might buy one... but that's the ONLY reason I'd do it. I think...

Day 4, Grumpy, that's something to be very proud of (and very funny regarding a smoke at the end of the world). Huge congratulations.

I hear you on those flashes of "mini rages" - really fucking scary. They come like a hurricane and then diminish just as quick (but, man, do they suck the air out of me leaving only a cold hole of dread). Also relate to propensity toward negativity and waiting for the truck to jump the proverbial curb. Best just to hunker down and keep your head where your ass is.

All said, you're really doing it, Grumpy. So very happy for you.

Stay close and all best. - Mac
