Well, well, I go out for the day and come back to find some knob jockey named Libra (a seemingly globular cluster fuck) talking yang. Que Paso, Miss Puss?
Guess the porn isn't working-out for you tonight, kitten. That's what happens when you have a wee bit more to drink than practical. There, there, go sleep it off and in the morn, well, in the morn you'll still be a pissant but at least you'll be sober.

That said.....

Grumps, One or 12, you're my ace boon coon and like our day six/almost seven anon brother said, there's real strenght in gentleness and truth. Flip sides of the same coin, Grumpy. Coughs are gone, but we're still here. Why'd we quit? Probably because despite a lifetime of our internal tyrants telling us we're not worth it, we've always know we were worth (despite accumulating as many experiences to counter that truth). We're worth it.

Good to hear and see you CHL and Des Fox. We're all doing.

Oh, and Libra, watch out for Maxwell and his silver hammer, hump.

Peace in the Middleast

Amon 132 - Six/almost Seven (so close to a week for you- Congrats). Glad last night worked-out well. Sounds like you had a great time and confirmation that you can still have a great time without the toxic sticks. Smart of you to bring the gum.

You said some very nice things to Grumpy and I agree with you that it's so liberating just to tell the truth and to celebrate every minute and day we're free from the smokes.

Have a great trip (the family house away from it all sounds like a really fine place to be over the holidays - it really is going to be a new year for all us on this thread. Great fresh meaning to "new year" for our ragtag group of free men and women self-liberated (and sticking with Lucky Libra's Beatle's trend.. we're self-liberated with "a little help from our friends") from the stink, stank, stunk of the smokes that wanted us dead. Safe trip and all best (please do try and check-in when you can - you're important here). Best - Mac

CHL! Day 16 (I remember your first post where you stated you decided to buy the patch instead of your Camels, IIRC, and then chose to dump the patch in less than 24 hours). Beyond great. Rock solid, CHL.

I hear ya on the troll. How green was our valley, and all that. Just a matter of time, but whackos fade away. A troll allows us to take our wit for a walk (no exertion, no sweat broken). Like green-head-flies on the beach. An annoying buzz gets a swat and the view of the sky is clear. The waves still go in and out .

Not smoking is life or death for me. If I were to smoke, I don't know if there's another quit in me. On a lot of levels. That's how I'm playing it, CHL. Placed my bets, took my chances, and I'm riding it out. Life or death for me. No doubt.

All good things to you, brother.

Back atcha :)

It certainly aint been all smooth sailing and I still finding myself daydreaming about buying a pack, cracking it open and smoking myself silly. What stops me is knowing that I may not be able to stop again and that they will kill me eventually, as they killed my mother and father.

And I keep thinking that at ten bux a day equaling $3,650 bux a year, I am going to go on a serious fucking vacation whether I can afford it or not because dammit, I could have afforded the f'ing camels.....right?? RIGHT!

right

And what a vacation it will be. As you said, finding the dough for the cigarettes was non-negotiable. Why not the vacation? We always hear, "you earned that vacation." Now, we've really earned that vacation. And I mean we earned it.

Man, C, so sorry about your Mom and Dad. I think I recall you saying you were in your early 40s so your parents must have been pretty young when they passed. I'm sorry. I also recall you saying something about picking-up your son from school and breaking his shoes in front of his friends (few things give me more pleasure than seeing my 15 and 13 year old daughters in a pre-cringe posture anticipating what outrageous and "mortifying" thing I'm going to say - simply for the sake of saying it- in front of their friends). Your choice to put the pack down stacks the deck and ensures your son will have his Pop around for a long time to come. That's big stuff, C, and we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us. God Bless your family.

You can quit whatever you want to. You are not powerless. I struggled with drinking and smoking over the years. Gave up cigs May 11, 2001 and haven't had a smoke since. Gave up drinking Sept 30, 2006. All I did was read a book: The Easy Way by Allen Carr. I read it once, quit drinking, and didn't have to re-read the book, attend meetings, spend money on shrinks, or anything of the sort. Didn't have to do twelve steps or make myself obnoxious to everyone I ever knew. No pity parties, no wallowing in self abasement. Just a simple deprogramming manual that cost me about $15.

I've got 2 cartons left and have decided that when they're gone, I'm done smoking. I have no plans to buy any more cigarettes.

I quit a couple of years ago but started back up after my husband had a stroke. The stress was just too much, and there was a drug store that sold cigarettes right across the street from the hospital. So, I caved.

I had always had a lot of trouble quitting. I'm a terrible chain smoker with a 4 to 5 pack a day habit. Whenever I tried a cold turkey approach, within half a day the withdrawal symptoms would become so severe I literally felt like I was dying.

I'm sure some people will knock me for saying this, but it is true. The one time I successfully quit smoking prior to my husband's stroke was solely by the grace of God. I prayed for deliverance from cigarettes and quit with no withdrawal symptoms whatsoever. (This had never happened to me before. Every other time I had tried to quit on my own, I shook, sweat, vomited, and reeled, my heart raced, my head ached; it was agonizing, and I felt like I would explode. I was unable to last more than half a day without folding whenever I tried to quit on my own.)

God is now working with me again on this issue. Like the OP, I've begun to suffer some ill effects from smoking. I feel like I've reached a place where I can't procrastinate anymore, a major fork in the road of my life. God is strongly impressing upon me the need to stop smoking. I sense it's an urgent matter to do so. I'm trusting Him to deliver me again, like He did the last time.

It happened the exact same way the last time. Back then I had 2 cartons of smokes left, looked at them, said, "OK, I don't want to buy any more when they're gone," and I didn't for a very long time.

To all...

You are wonderful human beings and deeply supportive. I just want you to know I hear you all even if I don't say anything. I'm deeply unsupportive and grumpy at the moment. Maybe this will be the way I will always be from now on I don't know but know that I appreciate you all and I am grateful even if I don't respond.

It is my hope that no one will be knocked for their method of quitting or the God that helped them. This thread has been a very positive thread as you can see, with few, very few exceptions. I, and many more here will be with you each day for moral support. We trust you will come here often for our love and support. You can do this. hf DF

Yeah, my M went at 65 or so I think, she had several strokes at or around 55+..... lifeling smoker and drinker although she had given up the drink.

Father I don't know too much about xcept he too was a smoker and drinker. I could look up my step siblings and get the real story but it really isn't all that important

Grumpy, yes, I did ditch the patch after 24 hrs and for me, the withdrawals weren't all that terrible. Honestly, the memory faded so fast that I am not even sure there were any, other than the emotional rollercoaster, and that has basically smoothed out for the better. Of course I still dealing with the "big monster" which in all reality will prolly always be with me.

Hello Friends - Broke 20 days today. And, pleased to report, it's me b-day; the first birthday I've had smoke-free in forty years. A nice, nice, day to reflect on the best gift I could have given myself. Storing it all up (where neither rust or moth can taint or destroy this treasure) and remain extremely grateful I'm not smoking. So wildly, madly, grateful.

Could not have imagined this three weeks ago Sunday if I tried.

Going out now, but want to check-in later with my fellow travelers (known and new - so glad we've got a 4-5 pack chain smoker joining as I can relate to much of the smoking madness she writes of, and our other new Alan Carr devotee).

Best to all (and keep passing the open windows). Mac

Day 91, there are still the urges but I remember the last one how nasty it was. SOOOOO glad I quit. I've put on 20lbs that I really needed. I feel better, food tastes better, my sense of smell is becoming more acute my teeth are looking better. I don't know if there are bad things I can say about quitting except don't put it off, do it now! Just think of all the money you will save. Learn to rely on yourself to get through hard times and not smokes. You will be glad you did. Hang in there all you quitters!
