Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
Smoked for years and years and it was having bad effects on my breathing so trying to quit. Took Chantix for nine days, then said to hell with meds, and going it alone. Haven,t had a Marlboro for over two weeks, how -ever I do get the urge several times a day, but the urge is getting farther apart and easier to get past. Wish me luck. Maybe this can become, "SMOKERS ANONYMOUS" thread. Update, after almost three months I am still smoke free. Yes I still have the occasional urge but it goes away quickly. Proud so many have reported quitting in the many pages of this thread.

Oh, my goodness. You really are as thick as you initially appeared. I usually suffer fools with great compassion. Self-righteous fools are another matter. More to be pitied than scorned. That you appear to be a small-minded twit is evident. That it wasn't your intent to offend here is bullshit. You're the kid who'd wave their arm furiously to get the teacher's attention to rat-out a classmate. You're the twisted kid who thought they were precocious when in truth they were simply obnoxious. I could go on (but pearls before the swine and all that), but I will cease. There's no anger, just a dismay that people like you feel they have to insert themselves into areas with no intent of contributing anything constructive (other than stroking their small, skidish, egos).

So, again, please (because we are in polite society here), in the name of all that's good and holy, take a flying fuck at a rolling donut and, again, piss-off you simple little pissant.
 Quoting: BxMac

OK, perhaps I didn't realize this was strictly a support thread for smokers instead of a thread about smoking in general and perhaps my comments did seem a bit self-righteous for this thread since I never smoked...but you buddy have some serious anger issues !

Don't try to say you're not angry cos your frustration is almost palpable ! Did your wife didn't give you any last night or what ?

You know nothing about me and because of a comment that you didn't like you think that you have me all figured out ?

If you need a place to go to vent some steam, go outside and scream or something but don't chop my head off and start spewing bullshit here !

I hear you, CHL. Sometimes they bring a self-righteous swagger that just begs a beat-down. A bullseye on their sanctimonious chests.

Most of us here are playing for keeps. Stakes are too high. I rely on the safety and sanctity our tranquil harbor affords. Shit is too important. Life or death.

I'm also on the quitting bandwagon.

When the urge hits to smoke, i kinda of make a pro/con list to help me find my priorities.

It's kind of like this:

Pro
- satisfies my craving for nicotine
- gives me a sense of community with others smokers

Con
-makes me feel like shit
-makes me smell like shit
-costs an exorbitant amount of money as a habit
-when w/out a cig for more than 6 hours, causes me to become irritable

When i think of it this way, the choice just to quit just makes more sense.

Anyway, carry on ex-smokers and may your lungs be a clean as a fresh autumn breeze lol

Did anyone try this [link to www.chantix.com] ?

It's supposed to be a non-nicotine based drug that really helps you quit smoking !

It's different from other such drugs because it contains no nicotine at all , It targets nicotine receptors in the brain, attaches to them, and blocks nicotine from reaching them !

A friend of mine tried a year ago and said it was really great, I dunno if he's managed quit for good or not but I'd just thought I'd share...

Sorry if this has been mentioned before in this thread !

i thought i was talking to myself earlier.

Man it's hard eh? three weeks in and I'm still craving and still sad. I've read about this now and thanks to you all as well understand this is a stage. I just have to make sure I get over it and don't spend the rest of my life weeping and wailing like a mourning dove in a pre-warmed oven.

Wish I had your anger stuff there BxMac, master of the understatement. You know you really shouldn't hold back eh? lol At least you can just tell it like it is. Woe be it to those who have never smoked walking into a thread with a bunch of smokers who are quitting. Tis very dangerous territory...

In real life we're probably very nice people. Well.. maybe.

Stay strong everyone. How are the January 1 people doing? Hanging in? One more day and you'll feel better. Cranberry juice !!!

Ding! we have a winner........ I took various anti depressants years ago (15) and STILL have residual side effects from it. There was no fucking way I would ever take that shit for quitting smoking.....

Here is how I did it.....

Quote for the day:

"It's not punishment, it's liberation" AGAIN. It can't be said enough!!!

But really... the quote for the day purely from a critical literary standpoint is:

"Please piss-off and find some macrobiotic, self-obessed, small-minded thread to pontificate on. Wanker."

I mean even if this were directed at me, the next day I'd have to find it funny no?

Maybe it's just me...

Aw, Grumps, not too proud of that one. Turns out the poster isn't a bad sort at all. We exchanged a few e-mails and I found, as is usually the case, if I get past the words (and even the actions from time to time) we're all pretty much the same. I just have to remember to take the time to stand still and look a little deeper. In fact, the poster seems quite nice confirming yet again my obligation to pull the plank from mine own eye before worrying the sliver in another's. No tape to brake at the finish for me, Grumps. Just a work in progress.

Always, I might be entertaining angels unawares.

Des.....Don't get me started.

I just finished reading you on the thread where the guy was shilling for a "vet." I didn't know you had been in. Another thing we stand side-by-side on. People tend to bitch about the VA, but the one here in the Bronx is top-notch. A real homerun and blessing to me. I'm taking it down for the night, but we'll have to talk more about our shared experience. As always, all good things to you, Des.

Day 31 I spent too bad, I thought I would die.
I was gasping for air.

I spent the first day of the year in hospital, something very unpleasant.

Smoking since I was 15 years,I am 39 today.

Quit day 01/01/2013 and do not intend to return more.

This shit kills people, directly or indirectly.

I will follow this thread and update my situation when possible.

Good luck to all.hf

Grumpy 24! That's really incredible. Do you sometimes stop and say, "I can't believe I'm not smoking," 24 Days. Something to be proud of, admired, and celebrated.

Big congrats to you, Grumpster. Keep passing the open windows and keep fighting the good fight (and keep reaching-out here and helping the newcomer as they start their smoke-free journey of freedom). Best.

Danger, you got it. "This shit kills people." I'll be watching for your updates. It's day 3. You're going to make it!

BxMac. It doesn't feel real this not smoking for 24 days. Everyday I'm afraid I'll go back. Every single damn day. I guess that's the point of the one day at a time. Staying off is harder than quitting at some point.

How are you doing anyway BxMac? Still picking fights with the famdamily? I did that for a few days... lol

I'm going to make a pot of tea now. My days are becoming structured around my pot of tea. It keeps me going.

How is everyone else doing? Souljah? How goes the herbal quit?

Thanks friend.

Once I managed to stop for 3 years...
I came back because of stress and weakness mainly of character.

Well I'll follow the same recipe I used last time.

I'm doing this:

1-using gum when the urge to smoke comes.
2-avoiding drinking coffee,beer and etc.
3-avoiding places and situations they can get stressed.
4-Occupy your mind to pass the time, or do some activity, can be gym, work,or anything that will hold your attention.(that does not leave you stressed, just distracted, or focused).

And most importantly the willpower to quit.

The other time I did so and got,the first 2 weeks are bad, but if you get that and you almost certainly do not want to smoke more.

That's the way to do it Danger!

CHL will be along eventually today to post his link to the Carr book. That's the real lifesaver for me...

and tea..

:)

I was reading your post in the "flu" thread. Is that what happened to you to land you in ER? Sounds a bloody nasty virus. I had the shot and others are getting sick around me but so far so good, knock on wood. That would do me in! Just quit smoking to the get the regular phlegm outta my lungs. Can't imagine having that on top of it all..

Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
Things are good on this end, Grumps. Thanks for asking. 32 days for me today.

Hit a nice stride with the close of the holidays (they were tough for me as the days and nights were a whirl of family gatherings and travel and I wanted to smoke so badly many times - I had little time for myself making it easy to focus on familial irritants as an excuse to smoke; the great lie of my addiction looking to use anything to justify taking that first smoke to ultimately kill me). Glad things have slowed a bit. Back to eating right (egg nog, clotted cream and scones, sugar cookies, crack pie, pumpkin bread, and the like are receding in the past) and juicing. Feel a lot better when I do the right thing for myself.

That said, one nice moment regarding the smokes happened last week. I took a walk with my 15 and 13-year-old daughters through Central Park the day of New Year's Eve (we started that tradition a couple of years back when Tavern on the Green closed). It was windy and the girls were on either side of me. At one point they both looped their arms through mine as we walked and my oldest said, "Just want you to know, we're really proud of you, Dad." Doesn't get better than that for me, Grumps and, I was struck, once again, that I have never done anything in my life to deserve the great good fortune and gift of my four children. I could have wept with gratitude for all.

Smoke-free. Infinite possibilities ahead, Ten foot tall and bullet-proof.

Top of the World, Ma.

We're all doing it well, Grumps. Thanks for asking,

GLP
