Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
I think my illness was not related to cigarette.(maybe)

But I discovered the hard way that if you get sick and you are a smoker everything gets very very worse.

The agony and panic of not being able to breathe right,it's scary.

So I decided to quit smoking for good.
Quit smoking will only bring benefits for me.
And if I get sick again, my recovery will always be better if I'm not smoking.
Just one any....

The first symptom of stupidity is to think that we already know everything...

Things are good on this end, Grumps. Thanks for asking. 32 days for me today.

Hit a nice stride with the close of the holidays (they were tough for me as the days and nights were a whirl of family gatherings and travel and I wanted to smoke so badly many times - I had little time for myself making it easy to focus on familial irritants as an excuse to smoke; the great lie of my addiction looking to use anything to justify taking that first smoke to ultimately kill me). Glad things have slowed a bit. Back to eating right (egg nog, clotted cream and scones, sugar cookies, crack pie, pumpkin bread, and the like are receding in the past) and juicing. Feel a lot better when I do the right thing for myself.

That said, one nice moment regarding the smokes happened last week. I took a walk with my 15 and 13-year-old daughters through Central Park the day of New Year's Eve (we started that tradition a couple of years back when Tavern on the Green closed). It was windy and the girls were on either side of me. At one point they both looped their arms through mine as we walked and my oldest said, "Just want you to know, we're really proud of you, Dad." Doesn't get better than that for me, Grumps and, I was struck, once again, that I have never done anything in my life to deserve the great good fortune and gift of my four children. I could have wept with gratitude for all.

Smoke-free. Infinite possibilities ahead, Ten foot tall and bullet-proof.

Top of the World, Ma.

We're all doing it well, Grumps. Thanks for asking,

Danger, i know what you mean when it comes to everything being harder when you smoke when sick... These days are over for us! Right? Right!!!

I hope so anyway because I "think" I'm coming down with something... that dreaded flu bug? Oh hell I hope not... Then you'll all have to put up with me griping about craving and coughing... we don't want to go there...

BxMac, lyrical lovely imagery in the winter park of New York. And I'm afraid to ask, but I will, what is crack pie?

I don't know why I'm asking because the answer may not be what I want to hear eh? either it'll involve illegal drugs or something sexual. Hey... I'm a proper lady Canadian eh? Don't scare me.

:)

Stay strong. How are you doing LuvSoldyUh? Day three almost over. The rest of you? You'll AWFULLY quiet.

Report in! CHL has to give us his link and Desert Fox has got to keep us all on the straight and narrow here... ruckus? Where is youse at?

My friends, I am delighted to see all of the accomplishments, the new beginnings and brighter futures for so many here. The simple fact that our testimonials are helping others with their personal struggles is uplifting. Who of us would have ever thought three months ago that this thread would have helped so many, and more joining us almost daily? The passing along of life extending information and support to those wishing to stop smoking has been a blessing to all who have, and will join us. I have trolled, shilled, and had a lot of fun on many threads on GLP, but none of those threads hold a candle to our thread. None of them truly offer a better life, better health, financial improvement, along with a longer expected life span. My sincere thanks go out to those here that are promoting this thread and all the above benefits it provides. Any person coming here is always greeted with overwhelming support from our people, in the earnest hope to improve their lives. There is no greater gift that can be given than the gift of just one more breath, or one more hour of life. What we are doing here, in some cases, may be giving to some a decade or more to enjoy life on earth with family and loved ones. May we never falter to keep this forum open to smokers desiring to quit from all over the world. I dreamed of this thread, created it and posted it, but you all have given it a life of its own to help others unselfishly. Bless you all, you are my cyber family. hf DF

thanks DF. Very nice words.

3 days!!! I am doing good today. I have the urge every now and then but being able to say I havent smoked all year is a big deal.

I think I am coming down with something too. This does make it a little easier for me since I never smoke when I am sick. That is how I quit when I was 28. I got my wisdom theeth pulled and a bone infection. never once thought about smoking. Ha.

Anyways, glad everyone is doing good and more are coming on board. I think the book that someone posted has helped me some but I am only on page 30. others should che3ck it out.

Hi, gang! Forgive me for not reading the entire thread yet. I need to quit smoking. I know I do. I have smoked for about 28 years now. I can't believe it has been that long until I just typed it!
I have a pack now that I intend to finish but after that I do not want to buy anymore.

Can I get some pointers on how to begin? Also, I hear people here mentioning a book that is really good but when I clicked on the link it wasn't there.
I believe ALL addictions are really a spiritual battle and I do plan on approaching it with lots of prayer and downright spiritual warfare but I really could use some encouragement to even begin.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome friend. Just skim the thread, there are so many goo ideas contained here-in. Many recommend haveing cranberry juice to sip on when the urge hits, others have used the patch, ect., but cold turkey is a sure fire way but demands will power and the desire to quit before starting. Try googleing the book they are talking about, many swear by it. Just keep coming here with progress reports and for support. We have all went thru it, so spend the time to skim the thread, your health and wallet depends on it. hf DF ps. stay busy......drink lots of juices, water ect. You can do this, I swear.

Ricky - Three Days is A Big, Big, Deal. Congratulations. Lucy, Fred, and Ethel would be proud. And it is a wonderful thing to be able to say you haven't smoked all year. I get that. It's going to be a great new year.

Keep coming here and letting us know how you're doing. Avail yourself of the support freely given from one ex-smoker to another. We're all in it together, Ricky. Congratulations on a big milestone and don't forget to tell yourself that you are a freakin' rock star. Again, Congrats!

Oh, my goodness. You really are as thick as you initially appeared. I usually suffer fools with great compassion. Self-righteous fools are another matter. More to be pitied than scorned. That you appear to be a small-minded twit is evident. That it wasn't your intent to offend here is bullshit. You're the kid who'd wave their arm furiously to get the teacher's attention to rat-out a classmate. You're the twisted kid who thought they were precocious when in truth they were simply obnoxious. I could go on (but pearls before the swine and all that), but I will cease. There's no anger, just a dismay that people like you feel they have to insert themselves into areas with no intent of contributing anything constructive (other than stroking their small, skidish, egos).

So, again, please (because we are in polite society here), in the name of all that's good and holy, take a flying fuck at a rolling donut and, again, piss-off you simple little pissant.

OK, perhaps I didn't realize this was strictly a support thread for smokers instead of a thread about smoking in general and perhaps my comments did seem a bit self-righteous for this thread since I never smoked...but you buddy have some serious anger issues !

Don't try to say you're not angry cos your frustration is almost palpable ! Did your wife didn't give you any last night or what ?

You know nothing about me and because of a comment that you didn't like you think that you have me all figured out ?

If you need a place to go to vent some steam, go outside and scream or something but don't chop my head off and start spewing bullshit here !

There are a lot of people on this thread who have just stopped smoking. Some of us are going through withdrawal and that can make us a bit testy.

Welcome Anon 588 - That's the way to do it. Finish the pack and close the chapter. Your new life as a non-smoker is here. Remember, you're not giving-up the cigarettes (a person "gives-up" an opportunity to go to Hawaii or some other beautiful paradise because of other obligations). You're putting down the smoke just like a rural farmer would put down a rabid dog intent on killing all within its reach. You've made a decision (and, I hear you on how hard it is to believe you've been enslaved to the smokes for 28 years - 40 years on this end - and you look up and say, "damn, has it been that long?") to put down something that can add nothing to your life. It can only steal from you smoke after smoke, hour after hour, year after year. So happy you decided to choose the path of freedom. You will do it. I really know you will. The best part, you don't have to do it alone. We're all here walking together and we'll be here for you as you'll be here for us. Congratulations on your decision. Enjoy the last smokes and then put those mothers down and don't look back. All best.

Aw, Grumps, not too proud of that one. Turns out the poster isn't a bad sort at all. We exchanged a few e-mails and I found, as is usually the case, if I get past the words (and even the actions from time to time) we're all pretty much the same. I just have to remember to take the time to stand still and look a little deeper. In fact, the poster seems quite nice confirming yet again my obligation to pull the plank from mine own eye before worrying the sliver in another's. No tape to brake at the finish for me, Grumps. Just a work in progress.

Always, I might be entertaining angels unawares.

OLsoulJAH - You're doing it as you knew you would. I am, as I was, so impressed with your prep and unflinching committment to putting the smokes down. And kava kava? I spent three weeks in Fiji drinking that wonderful gift from momma earth. Every gentle evening, we'd sit in a circle and tell our tales and dream our dreams. You are doing it.

Perfectly understand that you have to be brief when you check-in. Just know there are people thinking of you and lifting you up in our thought. A safe harbor here when you are ready to dock. Jah is Jah. All best.

Panama Red, where ya at, sister? How are you feeling (did you get a chance to check the vision yet)?

I see you came upon my, ahem, stimulating exchange yesterday. Better than tv, Red, no commercials. No regrets. Sometimes all one can do is clock a guy leading with their chin. That said, only a thick thug holds to the fist instead of extending a hand. I see so much more of the world when I look with gentle eyes. Ah, that and $2.50 will get me on the subway.

Good to see/read you again. Please keep us posted as to where you're at (are you back down to a pack?). I have a feeling you're going to be very important to this thread (no pressure, yikes). In any event, glad you're here.

Chris - A big congratulations to you. Yeah, withdrawl is a bitch. That said, I promise you it will pass. Further, the urge to smoke will also pass whether you smoke or not. You've got the lion's share of the shit behind you. You'll never have to go through minutes and hours of the last three days again. They're history and every moment you don't smoke is putting the fleeting power (and lie) of the smokes further and further in the background and trash heap of that history. That you haven't smoked since the new year is worthy of great praise. You've accomplished much and now you don't have to do it alone. Please keep coming here and join us in our communial walk as free men and women.

Some practical things mentioned earlier that seem to help include drinking a lot of water to flush the toxic shit out of your system. In addition, cranberry juice seems to quell cravings associated with blood sugar drops affiliated with withdrawl. Finally, coming here has helped me because I found I wasn't alone and there were people willing to help me put down the poison.

Congratulations, Chris. Keep forging into the light as you break-free from the haze and fog of the smokes. A big accomplishment and a new beginning for you.

Welcome new quitters!.... sorry for taking so long to post this [link to media.wix.com] Please read and be amazed

Glad you you and Sub got stuff worked out Mac. I especially liked the speck and plank reference, my personal fave is "tame the tongue". That one saved me from a lifetime of spewing hatred and vile filth.

Glad that all are doing well....

Haven't seen Salt on here for a few...... REPORT!
