Fell asleep last night thinking about smoking... woke up today feeling great and ready to trudge on. No alcohol, no smoking...Day 11.
 Quoting: Hawk-02

Right about the same amount of days, I too would think/ daydream about smoking to the point of imagining buying, opening and smoking a pack...... Funny as it sounds, it actually helped with the cravings
 Quoting: CHL2T

LMAO i was laying in bed fallign asleep thinking about how great it is to drink a tom of beer and smoke my brains out... like a jackass. When I woke up, not even a thought about smoking.... til i went to the gym and my lungs were burning out of my body. One day at a time...

How are you doing today dude? Hows the band?

Hope everyone had a great, Smoke Free Day!
 Quoting: Hawk-02

Doing excellent and thank you for asking =)

Sadly though there is no band to speak of, we broke up a few years back.....
We'll put the pieces back together someday if god wills it...

Hello Young Lovers...Happy Valentine Day... If one is so inclined (racketeers)

The Smoker's Last Valentine

There's no ghosts on the gravestones
no monsters for the mash
just crumbled stubs of cigarettes
twisted in the ash

There's no coin for the boatman
no obal for his fare
all my friends are strangers
as smoke obscures the stairs

I crawl on fours and call for you
groping blindly for the door
burning timber and shattered glass
have blanketed the floor

Too late, too late I realize
it's you that I adore
fire licks my burning heart
death's kiss for evermore

All good in the hood, my smoke-free friends. The best to all.

A little late but Happy Valentines day everyone. I am late because I developed a blood clot in my right arm and had to go see the DR. Trying to treat it with meds for now. Anyway, keep on keeping on solders. hf DF

Grumps! Damn, where you'd pick that one up? The Death Row Inmate Forum?

So, where ya at, sister? You've been laying low and that fedora or fez seems to be covering an eye. No day count makes me wonder if you're smoking. No offense intended. Only thoughts and concern.

If you aren't smoking, how you doing? If you are smoking, how you doing? Either way, we're ok. It's the smokes that brought us together. Lit or unlit. Smothered or smoking. We talk of the smokes and where we're at.

So where you at (other than hanging with the Hell's Angels)?

It would be nice to hear you.

I have got to take a break from places who are making jokes about the horrible death of Chris Dorner.

I am not just a nice person to 'some' people - I am kind, loving and respectful to all.

My Creator is the judge and redeemer. My work is to love and respect all human beings.

I just need to get some space from all the jokes made about his death - not just you Grumps...others too.

Good thing you "love and respect all human beings" Souldyah;
even those who make jokes you find in poor taste. :)

Hey they Hawk! :) Way to go man!

Hi BxMac. I'm still not smoking. I'm doing good. I think.
:) I think I would keep posting that it was a liberation and not a punishment is the key to my problem of not moving on. I still want a cigarette. I still resent the fact that I can't have one. But this is brainwashing. Any suggestions?

Oh Hawk. You're not in trouble. I am.

:)

Humour, black humour even, is how some people deal with tragedy. Its been that way since time immemorial and is not likely to change for political correctness any time soon. If it does, that would be pretty sad. How many funerals have people gone to where laughter afterwards soothes the pain for some? It's just what it is. Laughter at a funeral isn't an endorsement for death any more so than a bad joke about an Cop getting incinerated is an endorsement for how things were handled. It just is. And I won't apologize by the way for that.

Hey, Grumps. You sound pissed. Whether it's about your joke, or the fact that you're in limbo between a smoke or without a smoke, I can't say. Maybe it's about nothing, but you do seem to be leading with an edge today. An observation on my part. That said, if it feels like I'm judging you, feel free to give me a "fuck you, Mac" if you believe I'm out of order. I'm operating on the premise we're friends so it's all good between us.

You asked for a suggestion regarding your being resentful about no longer smoking.

I've told family members who were whinging about not boozing to just go and fucking booze if they weren't ready to plug the jug. I worried they might not climb from the new bottoms they would dig, but we all place our bets and hope for the best. They were all smart and knew the angles. In the end, it's between the individual and God.

Sometimes my family members reached hideous bottoms; bottoms so horrific and dark they quit the booze happily and never looked back. Sometimes they kept drinking and went through years of misery. No respite or rest. Miserable sober. Miserable drunk. A terrible existence.

Sometimes they died. Before I turned 16, I had two uncles die under our roof from the booze. My maternal grandmother, frequently carted-off to Bellvue ranting and raving with the horrors, kept at it until the booze finally killed her. My paternal grandfather lived above a bucket of blood gin mill caring only where his next beer and ball of whiskey came from. He was such a wet-brain, he didn't even know his own family when we'd come to give him money. I'll spare you the litany and particulars of at least another eight family members who packed it in because of the booze. Most of them, good people. Some, the finest people I've ever met.

The stakes are high when you bet a life.

I write the above as background to honestly answer your request for a suggestion. To put my reply in perspective.

If you're unhappy with your decision to quit smoking, Grumps, then smoke.

In for a penny, in for a pound. For me, I've got to be in all the way. No regrets, no resentments, no second doubts. Anything else is going to lead to a slow, miserable ride. Of course, should you choose to go back to the smokes, you have to parse the odds and then step forward without looking over your shoulder. Have to be willing to take the hand you dealt yourself with no regrets.

As someone who has come to care for you, I hope you choose to not smoke. If you do choose to smoke, I'm with you too. Only you, Grumps, have your answer. But you know that. All best to you.

Healing thoughts to you DF!

Just received my ecig an hour ago...getting nervous and I little stressed about quitting. I have one pack left and am not sure if I am going to ease into the ecig with the last real ones or just wait until they are gone or start the ecig.

littlemiracles -

Nice to have you here. An exciting time and a new beginning for you. There's some smart, kind, and supportive people on this thread. When you're ready, they'll be here to help. A lot of people with close to two, three, and four months off the toxic sticks. Some good experience with the quit still fresh in our collective memory. In addition, a lot of people with a great amount of time away from the smokes pop-in from time to time.

If time allows, go back over some of the pages here. There's recommendations for using cranberry juice to quell cravings and address the blood sugar drops of withdrawl (not as scary as it sounds), water to flush the toxins out, and CHL provides a link to this guy Carr who has helped many here. A wealth of information in addition to the daily support.

You'll know what to do with the last pack/e-cig decision when it's time.

You're giving yourself a wonderful gift. And if you allow us, we'll be happy to walk with you as you rack-up the days as a non-smoker.

Congratualtions. This is huge. You can do it.

I do not feel as if this thread has run it's course... This is what happens for some of us when we quit - long suppressed emotions come up to the surface so that the 'real' us - (not the emotional self) - can finally come out.

A little p.s.

I went through the emotional roller coaster real bad the first time I quit for 16 years. This time I am better prepared for when I get angry and it is why I am taking herbs to calm my nervous system like Amino Acids + Gaba, and Tryptophan and Valerian and Scullcap as well as B Complex.

I also try contain my anger as much as I can through meditation and prayer or just staying by myself until it passes. When I do not, I make amends as soon as I cool down.

Strong emotions arising with clean time that have been suppressed through smoking are part of the healing process. The learning curve once we quit is how to handle them without the cig.

....I had quit nearly two years ago, when I was first diagnosed w/CHF & COPD,along w/an existing heart condition (Arithmia)...it was either quit or die....second hand smoke had never bothered me(wifey & daughter smoke)up until about a month ago when I woke up one morning & just smelled the scent of stale cig. smoke everywhere....on my clothes...on my wife's clothes...on the pillow sheets in every room of the house...after two years, I just had to have me a SMOKE...! OH the F'n horror...I thought I had it licked...I'm on the patch now (day 5)& seem to be O.K. However now I've become a complete tyrant & have banned all smoking in the house...I had no choice, my lungs were shutting down...I'm on o2 & a nebulizer...all in less than one month.
