i have the worst breathing problems, especially when laying down. i need to quit so bad! i used to be bery healthy and now i have damn near no stamina. im hooked. :/

You have the power within you to improve your health dramatically by quitting the smokes. Read how others have done it here, you can do it too. For your sake, do it now, because the bad effects of smoking only gets exponentially worse the longer you smoke. Wishing you success when you decide to join us on the quitters ship. DF

Thank you, everybody. And to you fox, for creating this thread. It's truly an awful experience thus far, I'll have the time to actually talk in depth with you all later in the week.

Going into this (about to begin day 5) I'm heading a lot of advice from past posts. Thank you for all of your insights. Fox, I have started that book as well. Going into it has me a bit skeptical, as is expected stated from the Preface. But I will continue to read it all the way through.

Will update as soon as I can (hopefully tomorrow afternoon). I really like and appreciate that this thread has turned into a support group/family kind of setting and I'm excited as well as extremly thankful for that.

Quit Jan 1990. Smoked 22 years...damn! Things that help me through. It's a pain to run out and have to go buy a pack...It costs so damn much. I smelled bad...my smell boughter other peolpe near me...my breath stinks...my teeth were stained black...my hands were stained yellow...they burned my eyes...they burned my carpet and funisher... burned car sets and rugs ,almost get in a accident when I dropped them in my car... I've burned myself... I've burned others including my own children... I've dropped ashes in homes that weren't mine... dirty ash trays... Smokers think they have smokers right and don't give a shit about others (smoke in your face)...people bum them and I run out, I don't like paying for their smoking habit...I quit dozens of times... I was a addict...smoking makes me feel like a loser when I gave in after quiting... I coughed up flum... I think that I my die with cancer...father-in-law died from smoking... my mother-in-law as emphazema from smoking... If you love smoking then you will die from smoking.. Learn to hate smoking... When it comes to smokers near me I am a total ass-hole and proud of it... You can be a ass-hole too... It feel good!...QUIT SMOKING...and this is the short list

I quit a little over 2 years ago. I smoked a pack and a half a day for over 30 years. It is truely a mental issue, after 3 days your body does not crave nicotine. It is a matter of habit. If you quit for 3 days you can quit forever, but remember you can never smoke 1 more, or use any type of tobacco or you will be right back to the point you stopped. Good luck and good health. I can't believe how much better I feel after quiting.

Today is a new day, and its NEVER too late to quit. you would be amazed how quickley you start to feel and look better. Woke up today with the notion in mind not to smoke or drink. Think i am going to do just that.. Day 59.

The natural healing process is sometimes up and down, lately I have been unable to write, as much as my heart would like to. Which is why, I am so grateful for emoticons!!!

I feel incredible joy when I come and read the newcomers and those who have been sharing for many months, comments.

Everyone who comes here and shares has something valuable to share from their own experience. It is what fuels this thread and keeps us all going.

On another note, are you anywhere near Edinburg? Spent some time there and pissed away about two hours talking with Irvine Welch (Trainspotting, Acid House) in a little pub off the Royal Mile about nine blocks down from the castle. And as much as I loved Edinburgh (I'd live there in a minute) the picture you posted exceeds all the man-made beauty of that fine city. Frankly, it encapsulates what three months free of the smokes looks like; Fresh, clean, and open to infinite possibilities. Lovely.

This thread has been a lifesaver for me and I know I would not be smoke-free were it not for the spirit and the people who populate these pages (while we were away this weekend, my wife broke my shoes after I was being a bit testy by saying, "Oh, baby misses his no-smoking pals on GLP."). No doubt.

It has also allowed me to test one of the tenets of the St Francis prayer that states the truism that in the giving we receive. It's true and I have received so much grace over and over here on this thread. I receive so much more than I could ever give. This thread is golden to me.
