I used to work for Philips semiconductors 8 years ago, but people advised me not to work in the manufacturing industry because all the chip manufacturing jobs will be outsourced to china and India.

And they really didn't fall to on their promise to make ATI open source like they claimed they would, the drivers are still broken as shit. A lot of claims and little done. I hope they've learned a lesson and start acting on their promises instead of hyping up products. It looks like they're starting to rebuild themselves on the mobile market, but too little too late.

It would mean higher prices from nVidia and Intel, not to mention the loss of all those hi-tech jobs and lots of unhappy worker. AMD was never able to get the speed crown that they help for a brief time over Intel and nVidia, not sure why. Competition is great for us consumers as it means higher quality and more bang for the buck. Now, Intel and nVidia can relax a bit and move prices up.

AMD's problem is they gambled on multicore technology that didn't pan out, while Intel stuck with single thread performance which is a much safer bet.
