I'll take a stab at this where it may actually make sense. In a preindustrial time, one can only become wealthy using others to profit from, and abuse by way of taking a greater share of the profit of their physical labor. In essence, one becomes rich through overt exploitation and greed over the results. Essentially one became rich only via slavery and abuse and exploitation. You may disagree, but that's likely it, the intentional and avoidable abuse of the unfortunate and disproportionate confiscations of the results of their toil.
