Quick Question
Is saying "Thank God" considered taking the lord's name in vain, thus sinning?

Re: Quick Question
Yes. Yes, it is. And everyone who uses that type of heresy, will burn in Hell for eternity.

But, if you call 976-GOOD GOD, immediately, we can offer you redemption. For just 10% of your income per month, my ministry will insure that God will forgive you of all of the nasty, sinful things you do each day, of which you aren't even aware.

Call now, and one of our prayer counselors will guide you through the redemption process, after processing your credit card information.

It's a good thing you posted your concerns.

Yes, it is a sin.

Of course it depends on the context, but I believe I understand the context you are referring to, and that usage is very much taking His name in vain.

You might believe it is not a 'big sin' because you are not hurting anyone or doing anything immoral, and perhaps you are correct. However, I wonder if we will not be judged on such 'small sins' based on our heart's desire to honor God and follow His laws? After all, how difficult would it be, if we truly wanted to, decide not to say such things anymore?

I consider that if you can think "it isn't a big deal", then perhaps it wouldn't be a big deal to stop doing it if your heart's desire was to honor God? It really isn't difficult to refrain from saying such things, it comes down to your priorities and what you are seeking... are you seeking to please and honor God, or are you seeking to find excuses or people to tell you it is "no big deal" so you can continue to say what you know in your heart is wrong.

Sometimes, it is the small and seemingly insignificant choices that define our character and give true insight into our personal walk with God. Personally, if I was in the habit of saying something like this, I would make every effort to break the habit and consciously choose not to say it ever again; because my priority is on what pleases God and not what pleases me or what is easy for me.
