yes.

and the only solution to this thing is to let BP and Transocean
be allowed to drill 5 or 6 wells into the Macondo Reservoir
and draw out all of the oil, which will reduce the pressure
and stop the leak.

I don't know, man. I mean, you've got a pressure problem, right? Have you got a better idea?
 Quoting: ReVbo™

What happens when these five or six other wells cannot be capped either? I don't know the solution, but alot of wise people here who don't co-opt the name Einstein - They are pondering the solutions, but in the mean time, those people need to be relocated at the oil man and politicians who allowed this mess expense. Their safety is the first issue. The second step is what every one here beside dr e is trying to do, consider all the variables(and there are many)and proceed cautiously...Thinking before you act is a wise course of action.

There is always the possibility that we don't have the tech to take of it.

In that case move folks out of the way and then get serious about it. I don't think everyone would fault them for that I mean at least they are trying.

Meh, I don't know either.

precisely. with all that pressure i think the oil is
leaking out between the outside of the casing and the rock.

actually, they probably expected this to happen, with
all the pressure involved. but i think they were hoping
it wouldn't happen.

now they have no choice but to drill 3 or 4 wells into
the reservoir to harvest the gas and oil, which is the
only way they can get the pressure low enough to stop
the leak around the damaged riser (from 2010)

Or what if in fact all of that oil is holding something up? That's probably got more than a couple of sets of teeth grinding together right about now.

But it looks like the situation has us backed into a corner, well almost.

We're going to have to get off of the pot pretty soon

well, Macondo is one of the very first ventures into
deep deep very deep in the crust drilling, and it's got to
be done sometime... and any plumber can tell you that
a drip under pressure only gets worse....

Re: What's going on? Gas wells in TX over pressure!
Different wells, different set pressures with 'normal' spikes requiring the PRV to relieve pressure. Normal for one or two daily releases per well of 10-15 PSI over well ambient pressure. Average over pressure on all was 30-45 PSI over ambient pressure, and all between 4pm and 6pm yesterday. Some E/I meters have been online for 10 years, none less than 5, never seen this kind of increase or that many going off in that time range.

east texas here and the drilling co have been drilling like crazy lately i wonder if it's any relation
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25271847

to increase pressure 30 to 45 psi over a large area.... an incredibly massive amount of pressure would have to be added to the system. Heat could expand the system, or a lower layer of earth, pushing up, could pressurize gas pockets underground. Well, so could a lateral earth pressure.

I work for a mobile instrumentation company In Beaumont Texas. We service instruments that communicate wirelessly in several different fields and industries. This weekend we received over 140 Calls for instrumentation checks and calibration, All of which were natural gas wells. Is anyone seeing anything like this in other areas?

Lots of rain over the past weekend in Texas and Oklahoma. This region has experienced Severe Drought conditions for well over a year. The soil is saturated now with excess moisture and runoff. This will increase the pressure on shallow wells as the water table takes in the moisture. I would not get too excited unless we being to see sand geysers (caused by gas escaping the ground...very common!!!) in areas that are not prone to these types of events.

If you live in that region your only hope to escape thae coming cataclysmic event is to get at least 500 miles from ground zero. Since no one is 100% sure where ground zero exactly is you should get out of the southern and central Mississippi region. If you wait for your government to tell you, it will be too late.

How long do you have? I don't fucking know but I do know that something beyond comprehension is going to blow that whole region to bits.

Get the fuck out while you still can.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25199763

You do realize that what you're saying is virtually IMPOSSIBLE for the majority of the southern and central population of America . . . right?

It amazes me when people tell others "get out of there" or "pack up and move" . . . this is simply not a simple thing for people to do!
