Now, totally off-topic, but related-

Why is a meteorologist called as such?
I mean, "meteor" means, well an meteor -

"A meteor is the visible path of a meteoroid that has entered the Earth's atmosphere."

and the meaning of "ologist" -

"One who studies a subject"
Sauce: [link to en.wiktionary.org]

Then how to you get this, "meteorologist" -

"A meteorologist is an individual with specialized education who uses scientific principles to explain, understand, observe or forecast the earth's atmospheric phenomena and/or how the atmosphere affects the earth and life on the planet."
Special Sauce: [link to weather.about.com]

The word 'meteor' used to mean any atmospheric phenomenon - and there were different classes of 'meteors'
Rain and snow, for example, were 'aqueous meteors'
Rainbows, sundogs, etc. were 'luminous meteors'
And IIRC, shooting-star meteors were originally known as 'igneous meteors'
