Unions were formed to stop exploitation of workers and to attempt to get them a living wage. Now the unions are busted and Americans' average income has been declining for at least a decade while stocks and corporate incomes continue to rise? Why is exploitation of American workers in order to enrich company owners a Good Thing???! I don't think you understand the concept of globalization and competition. Companies cannot afford to pay workers a premium and it's not because they are greedy. It's because if their competition doesn't have to pay their employees premiums then they can't compete with that country and will eventually go out of business. Many unions are making their companies uncompetitive and forcing them out of business. You have to keep in mind a company like Hostess has to compete with companies in China that can hire people for dirt cheap. To stay in business they need to pay their employees market value. Unions want to get paid above market value. In the global economy it's getting harder and harder for union businesses to stay competitive. This isn't the 1800's where companies were only competing with each other regionally. The game has changed and now it's global. Americans incomes are declining because of the global economy, not because of unions. They can on the other hand enforce contracts and invoke legal options the employees cannot. Unions are just workers sticking together so they don't get screwed by the big guys. If necessary an arbiter is called in to settle disputes. The arbiter is a non partisan third party that can settle a dispute fairly.
