Take the map to Assumption Parish, then enter 1.4 Megaton bomb and that will give you an idea of the blast radius. Of course, this is going to occur underground and their will be some sort of subsequent geological collapse.

In Tx, there are no well spacing requirements if companies are drilling into an established oil/gas producing Salt Dome.

Translation: Companies can drill as many wells into a producing Salt Dome as they want without having to have 40 acres or 80 acres spacing between wells.

In my opinion, this La Salt Dome became unstable because of the number of wells punched through it AND the extraction of mass (oil/gas) within the Salt Dome causing it to "suck down" and emplode causing this massive sinkhole.

The Regulators (TRRC) in Texas are probably freakin out behind the scenes.
