Maybe that's not the only interpretation?

Perhaps a 'figuro-literal' interpretation is what's needed, and not the so-called 'literal' interpretation? Did Jesus say he was a literal 'door'?

Perhaps prejudice clouds our ability to see passed the 'punishing god' of countless parochially taught children who didn't know any better at the time?

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. As a 'narrative', if we read between the lines and use intellectual discernment, perhaps we might deduce that A&E had yet more, unnamed, children, and that their sons married their siblings, perhaps cousins (which, apparently, many do). Whether it is 'incest' to marry in an unpolluted bloodline when you are the proto-family, I guess ya just had to be there. Maybe there is something in the text, buried, that needs an unbiased eye to see?

Perhaps, also, the zohar does not reflect the universal world view of the... well, that's enough out of me.
