The Kingdom of God and the cessation of hostilities
So long as men preserve their own lives at the expense of others, crime and war cannot cease. The example of Christ which served as the guiding light to the apostles, and which ought to be the guiding light of all Christians demonstrates that it is better to lay down ones life, even in the face of injustice or tyranny, than to combat that tyranny by force for the preservation of our own lives.

Jesus taught that those who would be children of God ought to be peacemakers, to turn the other cheek, to pray for those who persecute us, and love those who hate us. He also taught that his Kingdom is not of this world, that those who live by the sword die by the sword, and that those who seek to preserve their lives (in a manner contradictory to the law of heaven) will lose it but that those who give it up (for righteousness sake) will find it. Where does this leave "God country, and apple pie"? What does this say to those who would attempt top strike the balance of serving two kingdoms, one national and the other of heaven?

If the defense of others is the excuse I would respond that Jesus also stated that those who loved mothers, brothers, and the like more than him were not worthy of him and that his mother and brothers were those who did the will of God. We live in perilous times for the Christian soul, a time when mans righteousness and Gods righteousness are being blurred to the eyes of the believer and when all manner of empty propaganda and persuasion is being used to take the power away from the message of our Lord. Such was the case during the crusades and the inquisition. Can a man serve to masters? Worldly Christians are the reason that Gods name is slandered among unbelievers just as it was by the ancient gentiles on account of worldly Jews. The Kingdom of God is at hand, will you reach out your arm to grasp it?

How about a cessation of war mongering religions?
