Anonymous Coward User ID: 25476330 United Kingdom 10/14/2012 12:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hi if the jets in the carb are blocked a quick fix is to remove the air filter start the saw then block the air inlet this will force fuel through the carb and clean it out. Another trick is to spray WD40 into the air inlet then start the saw. I got so pissed off with little 2 stroke engines I bought a gen with a 250cc single 4 stroke engine and electric tools. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 23093962 United States 10/14/2012 12:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Otherwise, it sounds like the primary jet is still a little clogged. Did you soak everything in carb cleaner for several hours? And yes I'd consider that product a throw-away. Hell my parents almost buy a new lawn mower every year because they don't take care of anything. Good luck OP, sure is a good feeling reviving an old motor, but frustrating when you fall short of purring like a homelite kitten! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25476330 Oh so you have a generator and use an electric weed wacker? Never thought of that but I don't like extension cords when I'm doing that stuff. |

You have to change it every couple years anyway. You really should be cutting wood in early spring btw. Last Edited by Cheshire~Cat on 10/14/2012 12:39 PM ~How fine you look when dressed in rage. Im thinking as well it might be a good idea to go with all electric chainsaws like another poster suggested in the future. Im off grid and have all the electricty i need to run a saw anyway and i have been replacing my small saws every year just about anyway. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 18594859 United States 10/14/2012 01:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I switched to an electric (corded) lawnmower, weed trimmer, and blower. Next is the chainsaw. I highly recommend electric, but you're limited to about 125' of cord. It's not hard to avoid wrecking your (expensive) extension cords if you pay attention. It's nice to let it lie dormant for 6 months and know that it will still start right up. I have a generator to use if power is out, or for more mobile applications. Homelite makes decent products for how cheap they are. Ryobi too. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 25276568 United States 10/14/2012 04:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Its probably the pick-up filter. The acetone is a good idea but dont use more then a few drops like the guy said. I know you know this but those saws are trash. I run four Stihl saws, a 066 mag, two 036's and 028 super, sometimes pretty hard for months on end. These things are bullet-proof, and easy to fix. My first 036 is going on ten years old, and I have been through more then a few bars/sprockets, this saw cuts like a mother-fucker, and only seems to get better with age. Even a used stihl will serve you better then a homelite. Do a little research and buy one on ebay. The 036's are almost as powerful as the 066 and don't weigh nearly as much. Amazing saws. When it comes to things like chainsaws and any other serious power tools, where you might really die if something goes wrong, I highly recommend getting the best gear you can. Operating chainsaws is a pretty big risk anyway, and it sucks when you get to the job and the saw quits. |
Cheshire~Cat User ID: 24419775 United States 10/14/2012 04:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Make sure to get mostly maple & oak. Also 1-2 cedar make good kindling. ~How fine you look when dressed in rage. Your enemies are fortunate your condition is not permanent. You're lucky, too. Wood needs a good 6-9 months to season. I have burned hundreds of cord worth of green/wet wood. The trick is to stack the wood around your stove so the heat will dry it out. Helps bring up the indoor humidity a bit too. Of course it is best to let it dry and season, but its not entirely necessary. |

Ive burned my share of green wood as well using the same trick even sometimes when i have a good supply of well seasoned i will throw in a bit of green to make the fire cooler and slower burning. But i do know much of the energy stored in green wood will be wasted to dry it out so its not my first choice normally. OP here btw i got such good advice here today i signed up the saw is running again just finished cutting some wood it was not the lines or filter this time i knew about that and it was one of the first things i checked. i guess i messed with mixture when i cleaned the carb. sheell be right mate |
