That's based on what you saw on the screen. Only the sensors in his suit will tell the final story...

And this is where you need to be careful about what you post. The sound barrier at the altitude he jumped at is lower. Read the science first - - - Then make your comments.

Just a question:

If he had broken the sound barrier, what the sonic boom would do his ears?

Seriously, dude. You don't know what you are talking about:

Yep, obviously compared to what you've accomplished today with this post, Baumgartner's dive was an absolute and total failure.

You're a blathering idiot.

i dont read and i will not call you. and please fuck off with science.

i cant stand people that trust in science too much. you are right though that in higher altitudes the lower density of air lowers the sound barrier.

So, if you don't believe in science, how can you possible care about the speed of sound? You do know that it was SCIENCE that discovered it in the first place, right? After I typed this sentence I realized that I think I might be talking to a kid. I should probably stop. Go read a book.

Yes, he did, at 100,000 feet above sea level the speed of sound travels at 690mph, he was at 729mph...he broke it.

breaking the sound barrier would be silent to the participant as the boom would be behind him (faster than sound )

Re: Felix Baumgartner did not break the sound barrier!
Just curious ...
Why was there no visual, like has been see in other circumstances where there is an arc like presence when the 'sound barrier' is broken?
Why was there no audio recorded 'boom' during the free fall?
...and if what others are saying, regarding the difference in air, would 'sound' not travel faster in such an atmosphere were there is MUCH LESS RESISTANCE?
I'm not saying either way it was all real, or cgi or anything, I am just curious in the conversation.

Anyone who could explain these things in laymans terms and at the end still sound resonable?

Appreciated.
