Weak regarding penetration like if you need to shoot a target through a car door.

I guess that is the end of your thread.

Good enough for you but not a good combat round in my opinion. I have .308 which will make it through much more than a .223 to reach the target.

Much of the damage is from being close to the muzzle and getting the gas from that, that appears as a close range impact and the gas itself even without a bullet, such as a blank round could create a similar wound. The bullet track seems just too short for full effect of tumbling if bone wasnt hit

Shot from across the street (20yds) by a drunk cop. Lets see the comparison at 500 yds between the .223 and a .308, or a comparison of a .223 and 7.62x39 at 20 yds.

Not denegrading the .223 and I have a couple of rifles chambered for it, but farther than 300yds or if I want to turn cover into concealment I will chose the .308 or 7.62x54.

Re: so you think the .223 round is weak?
For a rifle round, it is puny. You should see the damage done by a 30-06, .308, 7.92x57 or 7.62x54r. The .303 was pretty nasty too. Although of much lower velocity, the Brits designed the bullets to tumble on impact, like the .223, but the .223 is like a handsaw compared to a chainsaw in the amount of damage done to the unfortunate recipient of the .303.

apart fom the mini 14s still in their boxes for $100 , we skipped over anything in that caliber as it's not much good for hunting and apparently jam. they are essentially a .22 hornet round.

they'd be alright for americans, though whose main use for guns is shooting each other

at close range.

You can shoot .223 in an M16. Many of the older ones are chambered in .223.

The new round is a 5.56, an enhanced version with a different shoulder angle and much higher pressure. A 5.56 chambered gun can shoot both 5.56 and .223..

A gun chambered in .223 can only safely shoot .223

The average for a .223 is 49k-53k and 5.56 is 60-63k psi.

Through a 20" barrel the M193 round is traveling 3250FPS.

It is deadly down to about 2700fps.

When it hits flesh it is designed to yaw and break at the cannelure causing catasrophic damage to the bullet as it flies apart dumping it's energy in the flesh.

It totally fragments and dumps all energy.

I did a huge write up on reloading and measured several rounds.

This is a great vid to watch about a doctors perspective on gunshot wounds and bullet calibers.
4:52 is when the caliber comparisons begin

Re: so you think the .223 round is weak?
I like the .223 because I can carry more rounds. If I were younger I'd go with an AK. 308 is good for a sniper but you can't carry many rounds.

So if the opposing force is much bigger? Take out one guy with a 308 from over 400 yards and get out of there. They can't pinpoint one gunshot. A second shot and they'll figure out where it came from.

In comparison to the other rounds you mentioned, it is smaller, but it's still lethal. My favorite hunting rifle is my 257 Roberts.

.308 Hollow point.

Over penetrates and has better ballistic capability's then a 5.56.

No one fucks with an over sized hollow.

When WW3 happens I doubt anyone would care about the "Geneva convention"

"oh no. don't use those bullets."

"the Genneeeeva convention"

"oh no better not I wouldnt want the Geneeeevvvva convention to find these bodys years later"
