No one even has to complain - you can still lose your job for communicating with people who agree with you. It's a support group, for people who deal with tragedy in their job. Can't have that can we. Oh wait, if it was another faith it would be okay, wouldn't it?

Interesting that Captain Jon Sprague would probably be the only one to have a problem with hiring of Muslims. Then after those Muslims take over and eliminate all these policies it will have been the Christian Captain Jon Sprague who was right.

Seems pretty clear cut ot me! What happens in the real world when you don't obey your Boss/Manager/Superior in the workplace?

They asked him to stop using their email network to spread religous-themed content and he continued to do so anyway. He lost his job as a result of his own willful actions and desire to disregard his superior officer(s).

It says they warned him to stop using the email network for those activities and even disciplined him for it, yet he continued to do so anyway.

I know in your attempt to drum up Christian Support you don't like paying attention to the details.

It's absolutely NOT his RIGHT to send those types of emails on an email network that's created for & designed for WORK use only.

If he wanted to use private email addresses and create an email network by which his group could conveniently communicate, their are countless options available on the internet to facilitate such subscription-based email communication.

The only person he has to blame for losing his job is himself. If he wasn't warned and disciplined for it first, and was just abrubtly fired, I would feel bad for him..... But that's certainly not the case here.

Sprague, meanwhile, plans to appeal and believes the content of those emails is protected under law. He also believes the matter is a personal difference.
"Never had been disciplined in the past,” Sprague said. “Everything seems to revolve around just those emails and the Christian content.”

Exactly as I posted above. He's using department-funded systems to send religious-themed communications that have nothing to do with the job/department!

My last employer did not even allow us to send emails about Girl Scout cookie solicitations without their consent. I guess my employers were vile anti-Girl Scout haters!

I am a Christian, and I have to agree with Anhedonic on this one. The firefighter signed on to this program. There are other ways to get his message out without going against company policy.
No one I am sure was offended in this. But that is not what it is about.
