Japan, U.S. troops consider drill to retake island The drill would involve Japan and U.S. troops making an amphibious and airborne landing to retake the island. AFP

TOKYO —

Japan and the United States are mulling a joint military drill to simulate retaking a remote island from foreign forces, reports said Sunday, amid a festering row between Tokyo and Beijing over disputed islets.

Jiji said some Japanese and U.S. government officials were cautious about holding the drill, fearing a likely angry response from China.

One of the three islands is still US military property, if it is lost the Okinawa reversion treaty is technically broken and Okinawa in theory will revert back to American hands & those islands are part of Okinawa prefecture there by Putting the US in an even worse spot if the treaty is broken.

Dammed if we do damned if we don’t.

I don't want this to be real but Chrit you make it sound real everytime.

Somehow Citizen lacked the credibility I needed. :) poking > citizen

Does this mean children from around the world are being invited to clean up Fukushima too? I don't want to believe, I don't want to believe clicking shoes

It could just be that things are so out of wack it is hard to believe.....for me anyway.

Japanese government launches the Youth-Exchange Project with Asia-Oceania and North America(Kizuna (meaning “bonds”) Project). Under this project, more than 10,000 youths from 41 countries and region are going to have an opportunity to participate in the related programs. This project is a part of Japanese reconstruction plans and aims at promoting global understanding of Japan’s revival efforts in response to the Great East Japan Earthquake. The project was approved by the Japanese Diet as a part of the third supplementary budget in November 2011.

Yes actually there was a whole long thread about this already, and still I didn't believe you. The part where the US is involved is new to me though.

IF big if! If the treaty is compromised and if Okinawa does not revert back to US hands it still puts the prefectures standing in to the world’s courts hands to decide how bad the treaty was broken at which point china would try to claim the islands as Taiwan’s and would see Taiwan fall under the sovereignty of China. Taiwan is not a sovereign entity in the eyes of japan, but they claim these islands and china claims Taiwan. Understand china’s claim on Taiwan is not legal at this point, this whole issue could change that and Taiwan could be lost. The whole thing is a legal snafu.

There are a handful of outcomes that could happen if this does go to the world court, they are all scary in my opinion.
