They cant stop the gas....its a very real possibility. That is an ENORMOUS amount of gas... 500 BILLION cu ft. CH4. Atmosphere is 20% more or less O2 Each molecule CH4 takes an O2 for the C and H4 makes 2 H2O so each molecule of methane uses 2 molecules of O2 and since air is only 20% that means 5 cu ft air contains 1 cu ft O2. 500 billion x2 x5 = 5000 billion or 5 trillion cu ft of air. If you are near it you may suffer from anoxia, maybe die.
