Re: the Baumgartner Jump - what did we really see???
OP point it out!

Are you talking about the shake @ 1 min 38 secs?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1673157

? ..The whole video is 4 minutes 41 seconds long ...
is there an unedited version ...? as it says
HE FREE FELL FOR MORE THAN 4 MINUTES?
really? ...could someone do the math, the distance from perch to ground, the speed reached at free fall, time when chute deployed...
Does it really all add up?
Where is the visual of that arc often seen in sonic booms, why no audio record of such a boom occuring when he supposedly broke the sound barrier?
Are there constants, variables missing ....?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24469727

Did you not read anything prior the jump?
Or at least listen to the dudes talking about the jump?

There is NO sonic boom because of his size. Jets have sonic booms because they are big, heavy etc.
He's small and extremely light in comparison. Hence no boom, no nothing, just him falling (very fast).

And he fell at 833.9 MPH (1,343km/h). I think the Maths is self explanatory...

Keep in mind that the freefall was just over 119,000 feet!!
That's 22 miles / 36 km
in 4 minutes 20 seconds!

You can neither see nor hear sonic boom (breaking the 'sound barrier') from that distance!
Video recording used Infra-Red (white on black/dark grey) for getting him in frame at 1342 km/hr then alternated back and forth from IR to normal.
Audio Recording equipment on Felix would be useless as he was traveling FASTER than sound.

Longer vid...

I thought this was an amazing feat. Well done Baumgartner, and well done Red Bull. It could of gone really bad, but they pulled it off.

So he is too small to make a sound? ..in regards to a sonic boom?
hmm I once heard, the sound of a whip ... the crack it makes is the sound of the very tip breaking the sound barrier ... so would there be any sound whatsoever?, and could you please address the other issues with such ferocity?

No he's not "too small" just too far away from ground recording equipment and moving too fast to record it from his suit.

It didn't to me, but then who am I?
I dreamed this well over a year ago. I never wrote it down, and thought maybe I ingested something I shouldn't have before going to bed, because it was such a strange dream. I'm trying to recall my dream, and have been since I discovered AFTER he'd already jumped that this was even supposed to happen.

In my dream, I'm on the ground, not in air. I'm unaware in my dream that this is happening until I see this balloon. Here's where details have become confusing for me.
The man is in a hot air balloon. The balloon is red, and he is wearing a red shirt. So, red is prominent in the dream.

**when I realized this happened yesterday I looked for the video of it so I could see what color the balloon was, and saw red tips on the parachute....didn't matter because the color is in the brand of the drink and sponsor.
I also couldn't get "sonic" out of my mind after reading JUST the dude's first name. I didn't know why, but isn't sonic the hedgehog red and blue? I have no idea how this fits in.

In the dream, I was going down the street. I wasn't driving...it seemed like I was either being driven, or was riding something like a bicycle, because I was able to hold my focus on this person going up in the balloon. I don't know who it was in my dream telling me about it, but I kept telling them he couldn't do it...he can't!! I kept repeating that. I was very worried about it in my dream.

What's bothering me about it right now is the fact that I recall the whole "scene" of my dream being me riding around on something, looking up in the sky, and feeling like I am leaving something, forgetting something, worried about something...

As I look back on the dream, and the reason I say it is a marker for other events to begin is because the "worry" in the dream took my focus out of what I was able to talk about in the dream...only being able to say..."he can't". I worried about something south and east of me, and I worried about something north and west of me. Unfortunatly, this is the only part of the dream I recall.

As far as the film footage goes...I want to know who made the jump with him to carry the camera that shot the images that were directly, or seemed to be directly across from him, many miles, but seemingly same altitude.
I also want to know what is supposed to happen to this balloon now that they supposedly jumped from it. I guess if it falls from the sky, maybe we'll have something to go on?
I don't know...I have wayyy too many questions about it, but I do believe we've been told some tales.

Re: the Baumgartner Jump - what did we really see???
when the other guy did this jump in 1961 ...video showed us that it was dark at the height he was at. and it was stated that when he jumped it was mins of falling before he saw clouds and blue skies.

explain this to me please
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17666240

The "other guy", Joseph Kittinger, was the guy reading out the checklist in mission control.

Go on reddit folks, plenty of pictures from random locals around.

People are sending up cams on weather balloons to incredible heights from their back gardens these days, upscaling it to record parachute jump is not a big deal, you just need money, aka Red Bull sponsorship.

Weather balloons exist, parachutes exist, pressure suits exist. There's no need to fake it.

I'm really not leaning toward it being faked yet but I don't understand why theres no helmet cam video, this video is basically the ultimate GoPro ad. The chest cam video is a minute and it just appears that hes suspended.

Exatly, it was just BS as usual, I thought there would be a helmet camera feed, instead I saw a small thumbling figure, what a BS.

My apologies, didn't mean to come off as ferocious.
As to the sonic boom, I say 'no sonic boom' because it would have been very small.

I think falling at 834 MPH from 120,000 ft in around 3 to 4 minutes is realistic. And again, I didn't mean to come off as ferocious, just got slight annoyed.

I'm not leaning towards it being faked...yet.

However, a poster on the bullshit Daily Mail website asked a very good question. It is as follows:

"I know when snipers make very long shots they have to take the earths rotation into their computations. Wouldn't Baumgartners team have to do the same thing? If it took him two and a half hours ascent before he jumped, isnt that two and a half hours worth of earths rotation? How could he ascend from New Mexico and also land in New Mexico even with a light wind?"

To simplify it for you.

Stand on the ground, draw the outline of your feet.
Jump straight up in the air.
Did you land in the neighbor's yard or back on the outline!??!

You are on the surface of the Earth and rotating through space at the same speed as the surface of the Earth - as is the air/atmosphere.

No. I'm not.

The AUDIO recording equipment would not record the boom occurring "behind" him as the 'sound wave' would be moving slower than he was and thus never reach, enter, and vibrate any microphone being used to record it!

*EDIT*
In case you still don't quite get it...

think of a shitty car moving 50 mph at its *maximum velocity*.
You approach and overtake it in a fancy sportscar moving at 100 mph.
The guy in the shitty car can't catch you to give the finger or tell you you're an idiot because you are moving away from him at a higher velocity than he is traveling.
