I found an 8+ year old grocery store recipt on the weekend. Wow...
1st thing I noticed, my wife and I have hardly changed anything about our buying and eating habits.

The 2nd thing I noticed was the crazy incrases we have had in prices.

1 can Campbells Vegetable soup was listed as $0.89
We now pay $2.19 for the same can.

Fresh Haddock Fillets were $3.99lb. Now $7.99lb.

4 litres of Skim Milk was $4.59...now $7.59.

1 loaf of whole wheat bread was $.99...now $2.99.

Fresh Green Pepper was $1.99lb...now $3.99lb.

Canned tomato juice was $0.99 a can...now $2.29 a can.

Obviously there was waaaaay more on the recipt, but I just can't believe the inflation. I'm sure many people have had to stop buying items the are used to buying, and change their life styles a great deal. I have not gotten to that point yet, but I'm feeling the pinch. It sucks.

Changes are needed.

Thanks for the double bump.

MacIntosh Apples (3lb bag) $2.99...now $4.99.

Here in Nova Scotia we had an excellant apple growing year. One of the best they ever had. So you tell me why I'm paying $2.00 more per 3lb bag of apples?

A few months back I found a receipt in my pickup truck from 1989.
The purchase was cantaloupe at .39 cents a pound.
I am not sure what is now but it a lot more than 39 cents.

Your right, that is a good coupling.
Looks like we can expect more of the same until half of us are relying on the Govt for hand outs or we're starving to death.

Perhaps we should complain about the constant debt created by world banks that create inflation like this.

Instead, let's bitch about the grocers and the food portion sizes.

If we all consciously made a decision to be better - we would be.

welcome in the reality of people of Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece...who saw the prices doubling (and tripling) overnight when euro was introduced...

then prices raised by 10% year as the Euro value drops of the same percentage.

Then ask yourself how cannot people be bankrupted

Ah,,,and the salaries did not increased but even decreased overtime

In the US your prices are much better than ours. I'm in Atlantic Canada, our prices are typically the highest in Canada for most items other than seafood.

If I lived close to the boarder I'd be shopping in the US all the time.

Why? Really? You are asking that question? Because the growers are competing with cheap apples from Asia. Because the growers have to pay their own bills and they are sky rocketing... gas, taxes, their own food, etc. Growers are competing in an inflating economy.

Yes, I noticed the Campbell's soup price increase recently. It really is getting harder to afford going to the grocery. It's kinda depressing, but it's still gotta be done. verysad

This is the corporate exploitation of the consumer expectation of inflation... not true inflation.

Because the inflation experienced is 'Top-Bottom' Inflation, i.e. via corporate dictatorship. It is not an honest to goodness 'Bottom-Up' consumer inflation due to higher overall demand, because we have not seen job growth and across the board higher wages effecting the consumer markets.

I noticed another trick they are using to 'manufacture' consumption, or turnover; i.e dating beer/soda bottles and cans with short term expirations. This means the product is artificially NON marketable because they put an expiration date on it; which forces artificial turnover. Artificial turnover is inflationary.

Inflation numbers are cooked. If we really knew the true number all the politicians would be out of work.
