Funny thing is, I bet your paycheck in that time hasn't risen more than $1 an hour if you are hourly and weren't promoted in that time span, possibly lowered if you lsot a good paying job.

Inflation only works if you raise the overall living wage with it. Otherwise, you're simply ruining the currency.

This is the real inflation. I am too poor to afford the other things. Soups and juices benefit from ever better and better harvesting, processing and packaging methods. And I am sure what I buy is all GMO, and left over ingredients from the premium products.

Fuel costs, weather, labor issues, import/export trade can affect everything else on your list, but there is no reason staple canned foods should have the increases. NONE.

i dont need receipts..i remember exact prices....i used to purchase rice at 15 rs per kg now it is rs 40 per kg...wheat used to be 12 rs per kg now it is 25-30 rs per kg

Grow your own herbs and stuff, you will save a crap load of money. Plus you control how it's grown.

Next year I'm going to be growing a herb that you pay $5 for 8oz. The seed itself is less than that and you get more!

I actually have 2 vegetable gardens, one that has a large portion just for herbs. By this time of year though all I have left are Squash and Zucchni.

Inflation is corporate exploitation. The initiative of the dollar is Deflation, not Inflation.

The reason is that the Federal Reserve charges interest on currency that doesn't exist in the money supply. Therefore, corporate profits depend on a well trained consumer; one that expects inflation. Be a good little sheep, and expect inflation.

The dollar is a debt instrument, it represents a contract. The psychological expectation of Inflation allows the rise in prices when there is not a 'Bottom up' wage and job growth effect; it therefore creates and expands the profit for corporations.

The Fed Reserve and the US Gov't collects their cut from taxation; all a burden (hidden corprate, banking, and government taxes) on the population.

OP you need to use coupons. I use coupons when the prices are rock bottom. I only get things I know we will eat. I get fruit, veggies, and milk when they are on sale. W eat seasonally which means more squash and potatoes soon. I buy the minimum amount of meat get fattier pieces to compensate for a heavier cheese, legume, and nuts (for protein) diet. When milk is higher than gas per gallon we use less of it and also less cheese as prices for cheese reflect that of milk. My kids and husband are meat lovers and they aren't happy when I use less meat but they are healthier for it, anyway, and so is my wallet.

This week I saved 37.75 on my first transaction. I spent 112.97 after all coupons. They gave me 10.00 in coupons to spend on anything else I wanted in the store. So I bought more. I also used 3 more coupons. That total came to 7.01 after coupons. I saved 12.85 with the coupons. My out of pocket for both transactions was only 119.98. I got milk, coffee, fruit, rice, chicken, sugar, flour, oatmeal, soups, crackers, nuts, tea, pudding, tp, and crackers. Oh and overstuffed raviolis that my teens just love.

Yeah...prices nowadays are horrible! But if you plan carefully and use coupons with sales you can still eat and pay the bills. It takes awhile to get started but it does help and after a month or two you'll see that your total comes down a bit.

it is a good idea. especially for herbs. but just like the gold standard. we should not be forced to go back to the stone age where everyone grows their own food to avoid government & finance corruption.

weather, like last years drought, can make gardening miserable. plus there is the economy of scale that HEAVILY subsidized food industries get. Think about the Heinz company that pays little to no taxes. Large harvesters can process hundreds of acres vegetables per day. All that was subsidized by the tax payers, and the brilliant people who designed the equipment.

Well, we used to get 6 (red, orange, yellow) colored bell peppers for $3.49 a year ago at Costco. We went last night and paid $6.49.

A year ago my Aunt who lives 125 miles from here pays $3.00 each for green bell peppers. I don't by the green ones so I don't know what they go for here.

I care for 4 children, plus my 2. I find the only way I can cut costs is by having to travel to a few different places to get the cheapest deals and price match anything you can! Making everything home made takes a lot of time, but if you can even do one day a weekend, where you premake a whole bunch of meals and freeze them, you are better off cost wise and health wise too!

Not sure if in NS you have an "Almost Perfect" store, but it is a store that sells pies and frozen things that may have some imperfections in the box, or cookies broken ect. You can still get a loaf of bread for .99 cents, other wise here the average loaf is at least $2.50

I had also recently came across an old receipt and I agree with you, things are just insanely over priced. What I used to get for $100 back then I now have to pay $200 for.

WE don't have an "Almost Perfect" store...too bad. SOunds like a great place.

I also know 6 years ago when we moved up here we were getting our coffee at Costco for $6.00 and we now pay $11.00. I do have some receipts. I didn't keep all of them but looking back, some things are all but double.

I went yesterday and was in shock. I swear, some things that I buy have doubled in the past year alone. I didn't even have a cart full, mostly fruits, vegetables, some fresh shrimp, cereals, spices, rice, etc..

My tab was $286!

Its crazy. I find meat the very worst. I can hardly afford Chicken, Beef or Pork. The prices have gone through the roof.

Actually, what this was, is a case of a hoarder getting caught up in past activities. Hoarders will be the first...hoarded. :P

Meat is really expensive. We normally will go through the section that has the meat on a reduced percentage, you can usually find it from 25% - 50% off, just because the expiry date is tomorrow!,. We just throw it in the freezer and it is fine. Also buying whole chickens when on sale and cutting them up yourself can save you a crap load!

At the rate it is going though we are going to be left hunting squirrels and other lovely animals!

In my region, we have one of the walmart heirs, who announced he would renovate a large public retail space. He backed out when he was not given tax money to do it. you heard that right, he was not asking for a tax free effort on his investment. he was insisting the government give poor peoples tax money to him for him to have the perrogative and ownership. He then withdrew.

There is hundreds of trillions of dollars of money in the system, but 99% of people can not afford food.

i commonly shop at Walmart or Target amd you tell me why at those big chains you DON'T see an increase like at the others?

its sheer small time mom-pop greed!

all stores get everything at the same price yet "grocery" stores chose to mark it up by 400%

non-grocery stores like walmart only mark it up by 100%

i can still get everything on your list exactly namebranded at your 8yr old prices at Walmart, Target, Meijer, Sams, Costco,

I find the prices in the states are considerably cheaper than here in Canada. The prices at Walmart are pretty much the same as the regular grocery stores as well as the Mom & Pop stores.
