Food is getting more expensive, obviously. But what isn't so obvious is that the quality of food has gone down a lot. The quality of the produce in an average chain grocery store is terrible, compared to a decade ago. So you are paying more for less. So what I notice is that I have to go out of my way to find food that's really good quality.

Even when certain produce is in season, you still can't get very good quality in average grocery stores, because the distribution chains have gotten so efficient at feeding quality food to higher paying customers and funneling the remainder to budget-conscious shoppers.

To get really top quality food nowadays, you have to go to an upscale shore like Whole Foods and pay REALLY a lot more. Or you have to go to farmer's markets, food co-ops and etc.
