Report Copyright Violation | Meningitis Outbreak just got way worse, again!! 10/15/12 - more drugs tainted!!! Monday's step by the Food and Drug Administration followed reports of infections in three people who got different drugs made by the company. One is a possible meningitis illness in a patient who got a spine injection of another type of steroid. The agency also learned of two heart transplant patients who got fungal infections after being given a third company product during surgery. "did not say whether the meningitis case involved a fungal infection or where the three patients lived" "FDA on Monday expanded its advice to doctors to contact all patients who got any injection made by the company" "new reports involving the heart surgery drug and the second steroid, called triamcinolone acetonide" They have no clue on how big this, how many people infected, or what are all the infections involved!! 10/15/12 FDA Statement on Fungal Meningitis Outbreak: Additional Patient Notification Advised "At this point in FDA’s investigation, the sterility of any injectable drugs, including ophthalmic drugs that are injectable or used in conjunction with eye surgery, and cardioplegic solutions produced by NECC are of significant concern, and out of an abundance of caution, patients who received these products should be alerted to the potential risk of infection" [ link to www.fda.gov] complete list of drugs recalled (71 pages!!): [ link to www.fda.gov] In every operation, whether planning it or executing it, you can never count on luck; but you have to accept it, and recognize it when it’s there.
