When I was 13 years old, I was walking down the street in my married sister's very small, relatively crime free, town heading for a local store. I was 4'10" and weighed 96 lbs.

As I walked, a black teenage girl that was approximately 5'5 and probably weighed 200 lbs. and 16 years old, screamed at me to get out of her way as she rode her bike on the sidewalk. I moved to the side and she jumped off her bike and started screaming at me for not moving out of her way fast enough.

She then grabbed me by the collar and rammed my head against a brick wall then threw me down on the ground and punched me a few times, then began choking me, as about 6 of her friends came out of the woodwork and surrounded us, chanting for her to beat me up.

My brother in law happened to be close by and saw the commotion. When he realized it was me getting beat up, he grabbed the black girl by the back of the collar and pulled her off me. She immediately started swinging at him and screaming that she was going to have him arrested for assault because he "man-handled" her. As he picked me off the ground, he challenged her to call the police and then the gang ran away.

I was a country girl and was in this small town visiting my sister. For the remainder of my teenage years, I was terrified to be alone on any street in any town. The experience scarred me for a very long time.

That was 42 years ago, so this should tell you how long black on white hate crimes have been going on. I too was considered a weak person by my preditor, but was very fortunate to have help out of the situation.
