Good find, I was looking for something like this myself tonight. Pretty crazy how meteors just swoop down out of nowhere, its a wonder we don't get bombarded more often.

It sure makes you think doesn't it? At any moment a large pool table sized meteor could smash down through your roof and into your living room! I always found the stories of meteors hitting cars and homes pretty astounding. Everything could be a target and we have no idea until it happens.

Yes, and they are filled with ignorant hysteria.

One of the first "firsthand accounts" posted here on GLP slyly quoted a line from the movie War of the Worlds as though it were a firsthand report of this event.

Clever? Absolutely!

Worthwhile reporting? Of course not.

Morning will likely bring us more coherent reports of what actually happened, as helicopters are able to fly over the likely impact site, and data is compiled from more reliable resources.

Currently -- predawn -- this meteor report thread contains the most logical explanation.

Agreed, Friend!

Yours is the most scientifically plausible and fact-based find available to us now, and deserves wide viewing.

So I green-pinned it for not just you, but for everyone who applies common sense to a fascinating event.

Re: Breaking News - MBIQ Detects Louisiana Meteor 15OCT2012
Every year in the mid-to-late October, the Earth passes through the debris of Halley's Comet. This year, beginning from October 15, Monday, our Earth will move through a row of debris of Halley's Comet. The meteor shower show will be at its peak on Saturday night Oct 20, until before Oct 21 dawn. The most unique feature about the Orionid meteor is they are connected with dust trace left by the Halley's comet.

How did this get pinned?

The title of the post is inaccurate!! The site says Not confirmed! Where does it say "Detects?" The simple truth is. It is as yet unknown what caused the event. Investigations are continuing.

I downloaded the XQUAKE2 app onto my IPad and IPhone. If you watch it long enough you can watch meteors coming down to earth from space.

If there are any Itards out there who also have this app, could you please comment?

Hang on a minute. There have been some witnesses claiming to have seen something streaking across the sky prior to the explosion. Not saying that's true.

Generator story. That has nothing to do with this. There is no need for small portable generators as no power outages.

Hey is that you in the avatar?

My dad used to point his finger at his head like that all the time when I was a young man and say "use your head - think twice". You even look like him a little (except I am white)!
