The Mission of Artists

The Gift of a Beautiful Voice

Everyone has incarnated on Earth with a particular work to do, a mission to accomplish, an individual destiny given him by Heaven for this lifetime. This mission may be for music, for singing. Concerning this subject, the Master told us a story of a sister in the Bulgarian brotherhood:

“There was a young sister in Bulgaria, a disciple of the Master Peter Deunov, who had a truly beautiful voice, really rare. Of course, like all young girls she wanted to get married and she asked the Master’s advice. He told her: “Your path is only music. You must consecrate yourself to music.” Unfortunately, she was completely unconscious of the exceptional gifts she possessed and the necessity of cultivating them in order to enlighten human beings with her voice. She had all sorts of emotional adventures, got married, divorced and remarried. She was very unhappy and finished up losing her voice”.

If you have a real talent, it is a gift, an indication of what Heaven expects from you.

“In giving certain people a beautiful voice, Heaven has put them in possession of a great treasure, thanks to which they could accomplish miracles. But they don’t know how, and above all, they don’t believe strongly enough that they can. Singers are often spoilt children who do not appreciate the value of their talents and who have never reflected about how to use them for the best.They need to have an ideal to work towards realising. An artist must have the ideal of leading others towards the source, then his name will be written in the book of life; it will be noted that he has saved many souls from death and tribulations. And he needn’t worry about his own soul: since he has saved the souls of others, someone will come to save his own. If someone spreads joy all around him, others will come to bring him joy”.

A gifted artist who has found his true path in life has a responsibility:

“There are too many singers who send their audience disharmonious or unhealthy vibrations through their voices, who make them regress back to chaotic, troubled or passionate states. Where are those singers who, through their voice, inspire their audience with the desire to abandon their dull and mediocre life in order to embrace a new life consecrated to beauty and the light?”

“Put you voice at the service of God, awaken souls, awaken all that is the most luminous in them, and you will obtain results which will surpass all your expectations. In your voice there should be something which warms, dilates, stimulates and inspires.

The Work

When a singer wants to consecrate his or her voice to the service of Heaven, a daily programme of works begin, above and beyond that of vocalisation and other exercises: the work of mastering his or her inner life, emotions and feelings.

“Some days your voice is expressive and musical, and at other times it is dull, lifeless or raucous. This proves that the voice is susceptible to change: it depends on your inner state. That is why you should always awaken harmonious states of consciousness within yourself so as to act on your vocal cords. The more you are able to attain higher regions of consciousness, the more the sounds you produce will be limpid, crystalline, vivifying and powerful, they will act favourably on all creatures.

The singer’s mission implies a whole new way of living, a far cry from the ordinary life which is full of pleasures, emotions and passions.

“If the human voice has not yet revealed its true wealth or manifested the full range of its powers, it is because singers are not careful enough about the way they live. Unlike other, external instruments, the vocal cords are not independent of their owner. All that the person experiences in his life, including all the thoughts and feelings that go through his mind and heart, have repercussions on the voice. …..”
“Singers who are truly interested in cultivating their voice and want to be sure to keep it in good condition for a long time, must not only take care of their health, but also keep a close watch on their psychic life. Instead of using his voice to flatter his vanity or satisfy his passions or appetite for pleasure and money, he must use it to soar upwards. Towards a high ideal. In doing so, he will forge bonds of friendship with perfect beings in the spiritual world, who will then help him and guide him along his path, providing him with more and more opportunities for working and for enriching his voice”

The Master even a------- to the larynx, to the voice, a distant but glorious mission, which is being prepared, now, through the sublimation of the s--------- force.

“In the future humans will become conscious of the power of the Logos and will do their best to acquire that power by developing the possibilities of the larynx. It is basically a question of gaining control of one’s s-------- energies. Instead of wasting them and allowing them to flow only to the lower levels, men will learn to channel them and turn the flow upwards to animate the larynx. In this way- after practising for a very long time, of course- humans will be able to act by speaking. Human speech will become one with the Logos, the creative word”.

The Master has given us several methods, one of which consists in placing the hand over the throat and, through thought, sending a lot of love, gentleness and light to the larynx and its vocal cords so as to make the voice more subtle, more spiritual.

“It is love which has created the most beautiful voices”.

We can also talk to our larynx, even have a conversation with it and ask it to realise certain things. In my previous talk I recounted what the Master had said about the violin virtuoso, Paganini, and also about Adelina Patti, how an initiate had shown them how to place their etheric body in their instrument or throat so as to produce extraordinary effects.

“Singers who are conscious of having a role to play in awakening souls must learn to work mentally on their vocal cords. Here is an exercise you can do: picture yourself standing in front of an immense crowd of people; you are surrounded by an aureole of radiant light; thousands are listening enraptured as you sing, deeply moved by the powerful, subtle energies flowing through the channel of your voice into their souls. Their hearts are opened, their intellects are bathed in light, and their wills are moved to decide that, henceforth, they will work only for good. Keep doing this exercise for months and years, and the day will come when your voice will awaken only the higher, divine nature of those who hear it”.

In short, the Master specified that often the beauty of a voice depends not just on a particular physiological structure but, above all, on the presence of certain entities or nature spirits, whom through their love of singing, have installed themselves in the “throat” of the singer so as to help him or her. And the singer must live a pure life if he wants to keep their presence, otherwise they may abandon him and everyone will wonder why he has lost his voice.

The Mission of a Singer

Singers must put their voice at the service of God. Their voices should dilate, stimulate and inspire others.

“Your voice should provoke transformation in the souls of those who hear it. And if someone was planning to commit a crime or an evil action, when he hears you, he should say to himself: “For the first time in my life I have felt the beauty of the human soul. I have felt Heaven, I’ve felt God; it’s finished, I’m going to begin a new life!”

The mission of a singer is to create, to give something divine through his voice, to transmit the idea of peace and brotherhood so that the kingdom of God and his justice is realised on Earth.

In this way, through our voice, our words, our songs, we will become creators of the new life that the Master longs to lead us to. Our words and songs must be full of love and intelligence, so as to produce vivifying and beneficial effects throughout the whole world, both in the visible and invisible worlds. In this way, one day, we will become white magicians. The most luminous of spirits; Angels, Archangels and Cherubim will come to help us realise goodness, peace and harmony: our voice, our words will have the power to improve other beings, enlighten them, warm their hearts and lead them towards a sublime and divine ideal!

Singing is a wonderful way of addressing the 6 billion humans on Earth and saying to them: “Come with us, unite your voices with ours so that together we will form a great chain, we will form a single voice, that of all people who wish to unite their voice to the voice of God, so that peace, light and brotherhood is realised in the world and throughout the whole universe!

Just as ripples spread over the peaceful water of a lake, so the echo of our voices will go out and ring around the whole Earth from mountain to mountain, singing a hymn to the glory of the creator!

"When men and women sing together, their voices rise and merge above their heads, where they exchange elements of great subtlety.

Our voice is imbued with our vitality, our fragrance, our magnetism. We are connected to it as if it were a little kite that we held at the end of a long string. And when we sing together, our voices go out in search of other voices and merge with them, and they return to us enhanced and enriched by all they have received in this fusion. By means of song, then, the masculine and feminine principles first carry out a work on the subtle planes on high. Then, what they have created returns to them by way of their ears, and they all benefit from a chaste and sacred exchange."

"People who love to sing tend to force their voices. This is not bad, but such force cannot really engender spiritual emotions. They would do better to emphasize feeling, for feelings have nuances and therefore a subtler life, and the voice thus becomes more expressive. If they also add light to their interpretation, in other words a thought, the song fulfils its true mission. Singing loudly can produce impressive results, but it fails to touch the subtlest regions of the soul and spirit. Force must be present only as a raw material on which feeling works to render it expressive and thought works to give it purpose."

"Our vocal chords are a musical instrument unlike any other, for all that we experience in life and all the thoughts and emotions of our minds and hearts are reflected in them. This is why those who want to cultivate their voice and ensure that its beauty endures must not only take care of their health, they must also watch over the quality of their inner life. The voice of a singer who lives a pure, well-balanced, harmonious life becomes stronger and increases in volume, flexibility and subtlety; and as it obeys him more and more readily, he is able to express himself through it more and more perfectly. Instead of serving only their personal whims and passions, instead of seeking only pleasure or financial gain, singers should pursue a high ideal, for in this way they ally themselves with the spiritual entities who can help and guide them and show them ever better ways of improving and refining their voice."

"There are days when you feel your voice is warm, full, expressive and alive and others when it is flat, dull, hoarse or grating. If the timbre of your voice is subject to such changes, it’s because it is dependent on your inner state. That’s why you must try to awaken harmonious states of consciousness within you so they can work on your vocal cords. The more you are able to reach higher regions of consciousness, the more the sounds issuing from your throat will be harmonious, alive and powerful and have a positive effect on other creatures.

When you know how to place your voice at the service of the forces of light, you will help to disperse the darkness that hangs over the world. The children of God must know these great laws so as to be capable of working for the good."
