There's no unit of measure given for the 1-16 metric. Not my specialty, but I would guess that GPS delays have their own scale of measurements. You need to find the source and key to that chart. I take it you're worried about your GPS being overly delayed. |

The reason is obvious, ionospheric delay is increasing beyond what they ever foresaw when they developed the scale. To condense it down to laymen's terms, the chart indicates the presence of a high concentration of charged particles in the ionosphere, which interfere with radio frequency transmissions. Right now there is a white spot where the Sun is directly overhead, indicating the ionospheric delay is off the NEW scale they just developed. These changes will continue to worsen as time goes by and we cross the galactic plane in December. GPS and satellite reception will gradually worsen as well to the point of total failure eventually, especially with the geostationary satellites which are most effected by the electron belt because of their extreme altitudes |
