Re: Unhappy? Are You Ready to Feel Great?!! The Mood Cure: Amino Acids and Their Incredible Impact on Moods
i concur with amino acids being the answer to depression; i tried everything vit d [helped a tiny bit]; st johns you name it; tried to eat raw diet; no wheat diet; etc etc etc. Nothing every worked; i was down all the time for no reason. I tried theanine with some other stuff; it works perfect; in fact better than smoking you know what.

That's awesome to hear. Congratulations on finding what works for you. Many people never do.

I take theanine from time to time. It helps create feelings of well-being. Do you have any good info on that you can share on theanine? I don't know a lot about it, but a nutritionist recommended it to me.

One thing I heard about it is that it increases the brain's (or brian's, for you GLPers) Alpha waves. This is why it's so relaxing I suppose, as most are living in Beta 99% of their day. And, Alpha is really good for tapping into greater mind power (as in the Silva Method, which teaches you to access the alpha state prior to visualizing).
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6139196

I just know its an amino acid; heard about it here on GLP. I buy this stuff:
[link to www.vitacost.com]

its pretty good stuff I must say. theanine by itself didnt do as much good as the theanin serene.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 966396

it helped not hate my life so much; i pretty much saw everything in a negative light; this stuff def helped a lot; just puts me in a positive mood.

People, all amino acids are present in (organic) food, but due to *mineral deficiencies* your body may be unable to synthesis them properly.

Before getting on some weird hormone or chemical, try to quadruple you intake of vegetables and make them all organic.

Also, magnesium citrate is a great way to make up for the typical magnesium deficiencies that EVERYONE has from not eating enough (organic) vegetables.

You should not need magnesium supplements of you are eating enough veggies, but it's a great way to bootstrap yourself.

Remember to get 30 minutes of sunlight on bare skin every day to keep up vitamin D levels.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25663062

Sadly, even most organic doesn't have the proper nutrients anymore. Soil is depleted. Organic just means no chems used to treat the plants/soil. It doesn't mean it's mineral-rich soil. Plants only need 9 minerals to thrive. Humans need many more to thrive (not just survive).

I suggest Himalayan Crystal Salt for minerals (84 ionic minerals). Double-blind study on it shows it is truly a healthy salt.

30 minutes of sunlight only good if sun angle is 50 degrees or greater. Check the Mercola link I posted earlier for a link to the US Navy site that tells you what the sun angle is in your area for this time of year.

Still, organic IS the way to go, not only to avoid pesticides/herbicides, etc, but also to avoid GMO food, which is DEADLY.

Thanks for your post.

That's great. Not hating your life is a really good thing! No fun when we're doing that. Been there plenty.

Have you tried anything besides theanine?

And, yes, Vitacost is the best source I've found for most supplements. Good and cheap. If they don't have the best price for what I want I try vitaminshoppe.com, swansonvitamins.com and iherb.com.

This thread should probably be pinned for the amount of help it could provide to half the people on GLP, if not more.

Kindly click the "pin request" button on this thread if you feel this thread has potential value in helping others break free from anxiety, depression, irritability, paranoia, etc. Do it for your fellow GLPers, not for me. I could care less. I'm already on my "happy pills."

Re: Unhappy? Are You Ready to Feel Great?!! The Mood Cure: Amino Acids and Their Incredible Impact on Moods
Be careful when you self-treat.

I cannot take high dose Niacin....does the same thing to be as the phenylalanine.

My body just doesn't need this stuff.

I just had complete blood work done and that was the prettiest most perfect report someone could have. Nothing was out of kilter.

Know what you need not what you think you need.

Re-evaluate what you are already putting in your mouth like food colors and additives, aspartame, GMO and MSG.

Fully understand your allergies and sensitivites and how
things you put in your mouth can cause the symptoms of almost every known disease.

Fully understand any current medical condition you have, for example: thyroid malfunction and how tinkering around with "stuff" can complicate, irritate or worsen what you already have going on.

Fully understand the interactions of all this "stuff" with
any current medications you are now "putting in your mouth" and how all of this "stuff" interacts.

If you eliminate the "bad stuff and fake stuff and genetically altered frankenfoods" in your food and drinks
you could in effect eliminate the problems you think you have.

You are what you put in your mouth.

It is silly to try to fix a symptom with more "stuff" when you don't know how all of this is going to "mix".

You have to be your own detective and investigator.
Keep journals and notes on the things you put in your mouth.

Don't just jump up and run down to the store and buy up "stuff" cause you may be getting in over your head before you have fully checked everything out FIRST.

Oh Lord, I'm ready to close this thread. The comments are almost all negative and whining about "be careful"... "it doesn't work for me"... "it has this negative effect." Well, blah, blah, blah. Don't ANY of you READ???? My post said READ THE BOOK! It covers all of this already!

The book TOTALLY goes into FOOD and what to eat and what not to.

I'm done talking to a wall of people that can't even read and just want to spew what they think they "know" without looking at what's already been stated. I don't have time to rebut everything posted here when I've already said... READ THE BOOK. That's all. Read it. Covers EVERYTHING everyone here has brought up. ALL very good and valid points, but if you would just READ my post, you'll see that I'm not saying it's a "magic bullet" or that one should just go and "self-medicate" themselves without first educating themselves further. All I'm doing here is pointing people in the direction of a possible "cure" for what, for many, is completely debilitating.

You know what? If I had read this thread prior to getting the book, I NEVER would have gotten the book, much less tried taking aminos and would still be suffering. That's how NOT HELPFUL most of these comments here are, because they are mostly on the negative side, instead of looking at the many, many people helped by taking a simple amino acid. You could be depriving someone of the help they need because of some irrational fear over amino acids. To me, that's insane. Drugs are far, far worse, and over 40% of America is on some form of phychotropic drug at this point. Do you think that's better than taking aminos?

Yes, of course you should educate yourself first on potential side effects and contraindications. You should do that with any supplement. But, the book goes into that, and I stated all that in my OP.

See ya later. You geniuses can figure this out on your own I suppose. Done trying to help unless someone starts posting something positive here that is encouraging versus discouraging.

Not ONE positive comment. All complaints and warnings. I have to ask...

How did he die specifically? I actually take in quite quite a bit of complete protein and isolated as well. Except I am not trying to mimic the effects of an SSRI without taking one thinking I am some how healthier, I take isolated aminos specifically for muscle recovery, more specifically the BCAA's considering they make up most of our muscular system.

But if you raise serotonin, don't you lower your testosterone levels, which leads to some of the same sited problems.

Dopamine is suppose to raise testosterone levels, but that is a difficult substance to raise.

Re: Unhappy? Are You Ready to Feel Great?!! The Mood Cure: Amino Acids and Their Incredible Impact on Moods
<--- I work indoors as well. I try to walk outside in the afternoon after work to get some good rays :) I also use Earthing gear to make sure I stay grounded and protected from electromagnetic fields in my environment (TVs, computers, cell phones, ANY wireless). They can TOTALLY zap the energy right out of you, along with increasing the rate of oxidative stress on many levels.

The pineal gland senses electromagnetic fields as light, this then reduces melatonin (sleep hormone, along with very powerful antioxidant in the body). As fake light increases all around us we have to make sure to try and balance with as many good rays as we can. Also, grounding any static electricity that can be detrimental to the body.

I love talking about this stuff. I don't think people realize how emotions/mental state have have a VERY real effect on the human body.

YES, emf's really do matter. I was using a Q-Link. That was working quite well for me (and the impact recorded by Kirlian photography of my fingertips bore witness to this). Haven't worn it in a while, though, because I'm feeling so good lately.

Thanks for the link. Listening to one of the Peter Fraser interviews now.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6139196

The Q-link is awesome. I use the aulterra products and there are many supplements coming out nowadays to help detox from radiation problems. I had serious radiation poisoning and a tumor on my thyroid from years of X-rays/CTscans and MRIs (even those are more of the magnetic field changing causing oxidative stress increase). I hope you like some of the NES information :) they have some cool theories on the human body field and emotions.

Thats so cool you have had the Kirlian photography done. I have always wanted to play around with it and see what my auric field looks like! Sounds like you are really in high spirits which is definitely good for mind/body/and soul!

Re: Unhappy? Are You Ready to Feel Great?!! The Mood Cure: Amino Acids and Their Incredible Impact on Moods
A great quote someone just sent me:

"Thoughts are our enemy. When we are free of thoughts we are naturally blissful. The gap between two thoughts is our true state; it is the real Self. Get rid of thoughts, be empty of them, be in a state of perpetual thoughtlessness. Then you will be consciously Self-existent. Thoughts, desires and all qualities are alien to our true nature. The West may praise a person as a great thinker. But what is that? True greatness is to be free of thoughts." - Ramana Maharshi

How true. When the mind is quiet, we feel our natural, happy self. Hard to do when the physiology is out of whack. Easy to do when it's in balance.

Aminos have me feeling great - not because they are inducing some sort of unnatural or artificial high, but because they put an end to the deficiency caused primarily by my own previously inadequate eating habits (getting much better in this dept.) Such deficiency generates "false moods" that are usually negative and that end up stirring up the mind and thinking. When the mind is active, we tend to overlook the naturally peaceful, happy self that lies within us.

But if you raise serotonin, don't you lower your testosterone levels, which leads to some of the same sited problems.

Dopamine is suppose to raise testosterone levels, but that is a difficult substance to raise.

Am I wrong about this?

Given the proper nutrients (amino acids), the body only raises the serotonin as much as is required to keep a naturally balanced, positive mood. It's not like doping you up on aminos or anything. So, testosterone should remain fine, too, providing your physiology has what it needs to produce it.

Dopamine can get raised naturally, too, if you have the proper building blocks (aminos). I believe tyrosine and DLPA form the basic building blocks for the catecholamines - epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine, etc.

Good questions.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 966396

I have been reading some good things about theanine. It is abundant in green tea and in black tea as well. So that may be a good reason to have a few cups a day.

Very interesting. I drink green or black tea every day for breakfast and lunch. Thanks for that tidbit.

lulz. All the morons cry about big pharma and SSRIs and then take a cocktail of supplements aimed at the same results.

Lulz at tards.
Quoting: Hot Fish Pie for Jesus

If I was having problems I would rather go the natural route first before going the pharma route. Much easier on the liver if not overdone. But no matter what, the pharma drugs really do a number on the liver and the pocketbook.
